Today we celebrate World Environment Day, a crucial moment to reflect on the importance of protecting and safeguarding our #planet. This year's theme is "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration": according to the Convention of Nations United in the fight against desertification, up to 40% of the planet's land is in a state of degradation. A fact that highlights the need to adopt concrete measures for the regeneration of all degraded land. Thanks to our scientific partner 3Bee, we took part in the "Oasis of Biodiversity" project. Thanks to technology, we can "listen" to the heartbeat of #nature and interpret its signals to understand how to take care of it. We monitor the Oases to collect essential data that allow us to understand the health status of the #ecosystems and plan targeted regeneration interventions. Our commitment is part of a broader initiative which involves numerous companies in the creation of the largest ecological corridor for pollinators in Europe. Every action counts: by respecting ESG criteria and the CSRD Directive, we can make a difference for the future of #biodiversity.

🌱 Why does every business need a #Nature strategy? Nature underpins everything that sustains us: our livelihoods, our health, the global economy, and a livable climate. In a recent article for Cutter Consortium, an Arthur D. Little community, our CEO Eva Zabey writes on the importance of business action for the mission of halting and reversing #NatureLoss by 2030, and ways to extend the momentum created by the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (also called The Biodiversity Plan). “Thanks to available tools and leadership from pioneering companies, every business can join the collective shift to an equitable, nature positive future.” - Eva Zabey 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eTxp_gXJ

🌍 "Businesses are realising that protecting nature is not just a moral obligation, it's a strategic necessity" – Paul McMahon, SLM Partners, as highlighted in a recent Financial Times article. The latest insights from the FT highlight how businesses and investors are prioritizing #biodiversity alongside climate action, to help improve productivity. With $51tn in assets under management, investors from the FAIRR Initiative network ranked biodiversity as the second most critical theme for the future 🌱 We are proud to be part of this movement, providing tools that help agri-food businesses achieve tangible biodiversity outcomes. 🌿 #Sustainability #RegenerativeAgriculture #ClimateAction

Looking forward to this conversation on finance and biodiversity. A short while ago I also wrote a short primer on what we can do in this area. Here’s the article published by Global Development Network https://lnkd.in/exiXWhNQ The key question remains that despite quite a lot of financial innovation in this space, three things have not occurred: - Scale: we continue to be challenged by the lack of scale (impact bonds, debt for nature swaps etc have just not scaled and take a long time to co-create); - Credibility of impacts is a challenge: we continue to be besieged by challenges of measurement that show impact on the ground; - Equity: many financial modalities don’t build benefit sharing into their DNA. I am hoping that the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund or #GBFF championed by Global Environment Facility and UN Environment Programme will consider these even as we at International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) work with them to support innovation and scale.

Great conversations on investments in biodiversity. In light of the vast environmental footprint of agriculture, the broader food system must be a key part of the solution to the intertwined challenges of biodiversity loss, climate change and human health. Recognition and inclusion of smallholder farmers as key biodiversity and land stewards is critical in the global discourse. Moreover, there is need to rethink and reimagine agroecological financing and investments that complement production systems Michael Misiko Munira Anyonge Bashir Wangui Gitau
