There are good secrets and bad secrets. A good secret might be the surprise birthday party of a friend. A bad secret is when a sexual predator asks a child to be silent about what they have done. To protect your children, talk to them about the different kinds of secrets that exist. What is the difference between child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and child sexual exploitation material (CSEM)? Most think they are the same, but these terms are treated differently legally. CSAM removal is mostly straightforward, focusing on explicit content. On the other hand, CSEM includes a complex range of content related to abuse, harmful material, and privacy violations of children, which is not always classified as illegal. In many countries, exploitation is not adequately defined by law, leaving it tangled with abuse or not addressed at all.
