Canada's $850 billion+ AUM alternative assets manager Brookfield Asset Management continues to raise capital throughout the cycle for energy transition investment strategies and solidify its position as a leader in global climate investing across asset classes and stages, raking in $10 billion for its latest energy transition fund and will continue fundraising for it, expecting to raise billions more in an emerging-markets-focused fund for a total target of $25 billion! I also like the mindful engagement with traditional energy, as Brookfield Asset Management uses its energy-transition funds to buy fossil-fuel projects and says that responsible ownership of them is needed to reduce their emissions over time. Brookfield Asset Management, along with Brookfield Renewable and Temasek, is in exclusive negotiations to acquire a 53.2% stake in French renewables developer Neoen. This acquisition, priced at €39.85 per share, involves purchasing shares from shareholders including Impala, Fonds Stratégique de Participations (FSP), Cartusia, and Xavier Barbaro. Post-acquisition, Brookfield Renewable Holdings plans to file a mandatory cash tender offer for the remaining shares and OCEANEs at the same price. Brookfield aims to leverage its expertise and capital to accelerate Neoen's growth while maintaining its culture and identity. IMPALA SAS, which founded Neoen 15 years ago, supports this transaction, seeing it as a step forward for Neoen's continued success. Neoen’s chairman, Xavier Barbaro, also expressed enthusiasm for this new partnership. Brookfield is funding this transaction through the Brookfield Global Transition Fund II, with Brookfield Renewable investing up to €500 million. Brookfield Asset Management, along with Brookfield Renewable and Temasek, has proposed to acquire the remaining 53.32% stake in Neoen for €39.85 per share. Neoen, based in Paris, operates 8,000 MW of wind, solar, and storage assets and has a 20,000 MW development pipeline. Brookfield Renewable, via the Brookfield Global Transition Fund II, will also buy Neoen’s convertible bonds at the same price, planning to invest up to €500 million (S$730.6 million) in the acquisition. The all-cash offer values Neoen at €6.1 billion, a 26.9% premium over its last closing price and over 40% higher than its three-month and six-month averages. Neoen’s board unanimously welcomed the offer, with CEO Xavier Barbaro calling Brookfield the “partner of choice” for Neoen’s future. The Severn Estuary Commission announced Chief Executive of Impax Asset Management, Ian Simm as their Finance Commissioner today! Launched in March by the Western Gateway, the Severn Estuary Commission is looking to explore the potential of the estuary to provide renewable energy. With the highest tidal range in Europe, the estuary has been estimated to have the potential to provide up to 7% of the UK’s total electricity supply. It is also a site of immense ecological value and plays a major role in the UK’s economy ⚡ As a Commissioner, Ian will lead on the financial strategy and oversight, to determine how potential tidal energy projects may be financed in the Severn Estuary. He joins six other Commissioners with a wide range of experts from scientific, engineering, environmental backgrounds. A consortium comprised of funds owned by Macquarie Asset Management and Spring Infrastructure Capital Co has offloaded its 37.5% stake in the 573-MW Race Bank offshore wind farm off Britain's Norfolk coast in a deal valuing the entire asset at GBP 2.6 billion (USD 3.3bn/EUR 3.08bn). The interest was sold to Norwegian sovereign wealth fund Norges Bank Investment Management for roughly GBP 330 million (USD 418.9m/EUR 390.7m). The buyer said on Monday it has acquired Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5’s 25% stake and Spring Infrastructure 1 Investment Limited Partnership’s 12.5% interest in Race Bank. It added that the wind farm includes a debt facility with an outstanding balance of GBP 644 million at its newly-acquired interest. With the deal, the Norwegian fund will be the second largest shareholder in the project after Denmark’s Ørsted A/S, which is the wind farm’s operator and holds a 50% stake. Arjun Infrastructure Partners owns the remaining 12.5%. A consortium comprising Macquarie Capital and Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5 consortium bought a 50% stake in Race Bank during the construction phase in 2016. Macquarie Capital divested its 25% interest in the following year. Located 27 km (16.8 mi) off the coast of Norfolk, Race Bank is powered by 91 Siemens Gamesa turbines of 6.3 MW each, which have been generating power since June 2018. Societe Generale is acquiring a 75% stake in Reed Management SAS Reed Management SAS are an alternative Asset Management company specialising in sustainable infrastructure. Reed Management SAS was founded by Julien Touati, an investment expert with nearly 20 years of experience, including 12 years at Meridiam, where he launched and managed the Meridiam Transition Fund. As part of the deal, Societe Generale is committing EUR 250 million to Reed's inaugural fund, launching before year-end, to support emerging leaders in the energy transition. This investment is part of Societe Generale's broader EUR 1 billion commitment to the energy transition, focusing on hybrid infrastructure projects in energy, water, and waste. The company will be rebranded as “REED - Societe Generale Group,” with Touati as CEO, aiming to become a leading global investor in the energy transition.
