Here are 🔦highlights🔦 from Philippe Guinot's remarks yesterday during Geneva Digital Health Day! Alongside #WHA77, he shared IntraHealth International's #DigitalHealth expertise during the health equity panel. 🔦 Strengthening Health Workforce in Refugee Settings Guinot highlighted our efforts in #Chad, where we implemented the iHRIS software to manage nearly a thousand health workers amid a massive influx of Sudanese refugees. iHRIS helps the Ministry of Health track staff, training, salary payments, and redeployment, aiming for nationwide health workforce management. 🔦Technical Challenges and Solutions Implementing digital health initiatives remotely poses challenges that were mitigated by regular on-site visits and a focus on local ownership. Guinot stressed the importance of capacity building over direct implementation to ensure sustainability, with local partners prioritizing and funding the initiatives. 🔦Collaboration for Health Equity Guinot emphasized the need for collaboration between governments, the private sector, NGOs, and communities. True partnerships should prioritize local health leaders' ambitions and focus on building resilient health systems rather than disease-specific interventions, fostering trust and equitable cooperation. 🔦Future Directions For digital health to impact health equity, it must prioritize patient care (by taking a patient-centric approach) and support frontline health workers. Tools that aid diagnosis, inventory management and patient care can help build resilient health systems, addressing the evolving needs of patients and advancing health equity. Thanks Geneva Digital Health Hub (gdhub) for including us in this fantastic event! Thanks to Khadra Abdullahi, also part of our WHA delegation, for documenting the event.

🌍 Universal Health Coverage and Health Access in Africa: A Path Forward 🌍 In a rapidly evolving world, universal health coverage (UHC) stands as a cornerstone for sustainable development and equity. As we strive to leave no one behind, Africa faces unique challenges and opportunities in achieving UHC and ensuring equitable health access for all its citizens. Despite significant progress, millions in Africa still lack access to essential health services. This gap underscores the urgent need for robust health systems that are resilient, inclusive, and equitable. Investments in primary healthcare, the training and retention of healthcare professionals, and the integration of innovative technologies are crucial steps toward bridging this divide. Moreover, public-private partnerships and community engagement play pivotal roles in transforming health landscapes. By working together, governments, NGOs, and private entities can develop scalable solutions that address the specific needs of diverse populations across the continent. It's essential to recognize the remarkable resilience and ingenuity within African communities. Leveraging local knowledge and fostering a spirit of collaboration can drive sustainable health improvements. From mobile health clinics to telemedicine, Africa is already pioneering creative solutions to expand health access. As we advocate for UHC, we must also prioritize preventive care and health education. Empowering individuals with knowledge about their health and ensuring access to preventive measures can significantly reduce the burden of disease and enhance quality of life. Let's continue to champion policies and practices that promote health equity and universal access. Together, we can create a future where every African has the opportunity to lead a healthy, productive life. #UniversalHealthCoverage #HealthForAll #AfricaHealth #SustainableDevelopment #HealthEquity #InnovationInHealth

Past investments in healthcare have significantly improved health outcomes in Africa over the past few decades. However, the persistent high incidence and mortality rates of both physical and mental health issues reveal that there is still much work to be done. Whole person care during care transitions is an innovative strategy aimed at reducing hospital readmissions and improving care affordability. By utilizing a robust analytics platform, we can stratify high-risk patients and provide the necessary data for action-driven improvements in care delivery and quality outcomes. We are excited to introduce our panelist, Sylvia Okwarah, Senior Psychologist at HealthX Africa. Sylvia will discuss the strategies we employ to reshape the care delivery system and foster a transition towards affordable and accessible comprehensive, whole-person care. Join us in exploring these transformative approaches to healthcare. Together, we can make a difference. An important discussion for Africa to be engaged in, if countries on the continent are to develop the building blocks, commitment and political will needed to move towards achieving UHC.
We look forward to seeing the African Union, Africa CDC, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 and the European Commission take concrete actions towards achieving #UniversalHealthCoverage with primary health care as a foundation and build equitable and resilient health systems. #EUGlobalHealthStrategy #OneHealth
