Seven years ago today, 44 countries signed the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area. Today, 54 have signed, 48 have ratified, and AfCFTA is shaping Africa’s trade reality. With the legal foundation in place, AfCFTA is expanding market access, strengthening trade corridors, and unlocking investment opportunities. Key tools, including PAPSS, the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund, and the E-Tariff Book, are making trade more seamless. The Agreement, along with its protocols on Trade in Goods, Trade in Services, Investment, Intellectual Property Rights, Digital Trade, and Women and Youth in Trade, provides a rules-based framework for economic transformation. The Dispute Settlement Mechanism ensures transparency and investor confidence across Africa. AfCFTA is more than a trade agreement. It is Africa’s path to self-reliance, economic sovereignty, and sustainable growth. We remain committed to working with like-minded partners to accelerate implementation and create a thriving single market for all. The work is far from over. Implementation remains our priority. Africa’s trade future is here. Happy 7-year anniversary to the AfCFTA, the most rapidly ratified instrument in the history of the African Union.

The African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security department successfully completed a training on programme #planning, #monitoring, and #evaluation. This training is crucial to the AU’s capacity to address peace, security, and governance challenges across the continent, ensuring sustainable peace in Africa. Uniting for Africa's Financial Future: Future #AfricaEurope Youth Summit 🌍💡   The #FutureAfricaEurope Youth Summit on Financing Progress brought together stakeholders, policymakers, financial experts, and young leaders in Addis Ababa to address shared financial challenges faced by Africa and Europe. The summit explored innovative paths to financing progress and ensuring a sustainable future for all. Discussions focused on: ✔️ Reforming the global financial system and strengthening domestic resource mobilisation, ✔️ Combating illegal financial flows and optimising remittances, ✔️ Youth perspectives on financial governance, debt sustainability, and investments, ✔️ Collaborative strategies for sustainable and inclusive growth.   "Stronger Africa-Europe collaboration is essential for sustainable finance and combating illicit financial flows," said Dr Tobias Thiel, Director of the GIZ African Union, who opened the discussion. He also highlighted the importance of sustainable finance and youth engagement in driving equitable and sustainable development. We are delighted to support the Africa-Europe Foundation in organising this event. The summit was not only an exchange of ideas but also a call to action for youth to lead change. Celebrating the Success of the African Union Media Fellowship #AUMF! The African Union Media Fellowship #AUMF has successfully concluded its second cohort! To date, the program has empowered 34 exceptional journalists from across Africa, including 20 from the second cohort, to reshape global narratives about the continent. Key Highlights: ✔️ Empowering #Journalists – Fellows gained access to AU policymakers, training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, producing 300+ multimedia projects on critical topics like trade, digital transformation, agriculture, and women empowerment under Agenda 2063. ✔️ Impactful #Storytelling – Media projects and testimonies from Cohort 1 fellows showcased career growth, enhanced digital skills, and innovative storytelling. ✔️ #Sustainability Focus – The closing event emphasized the need for sustainability efforts, calling on partners to ensure the fellowship's lasting impact. Leslie Richer, Director of the Information and Communication Directorate at the African Union Commission, emphasized, "As Fellows, you now carry the responsibility to tell Africa’s story with accuracy, depth, and nuance."
