5 reasons why the Arctic is important 👇🏽. 1️⃣ The formation of Arctic sea ice drives the global ocean conveyor belt that redistributes heat from the equator towards the poles. 2️⃣ The Greenland ice sheet holds enough freshwater to increase global sea level by 7 metres - if it fully melted. 3️⃣ The Arctic is home to 4 million people, including numerous Indigenous Peoples. 4️⃣ The Arctic region acts an 'air conditioner' for the planet - as it loses more heat to the atmosphere than it absorbs from the sun. 5️⃣ Permafrost in the Northern Hemisphere stores 1.4 trillion tons of organic carbon - double what is already present in the atmosphere. Dear friends and followers Almost every year we hear apocalyptic news about the South Antarctic krill fishery collapse, notably almost all news published in or around CCAMLR annual meeting in Hobart (Australia). This video enlightens important facts that we cant overpass; There is only a  1% fishing quota allowed off the total krill biomass. The fishery is constantly monitored by independent authorities, onboard fishing vessels working in the area. It addresses CCAMLR's outstanding "vigilance" backed by decades' of the best research, financed and supported at-sea by the same fishing vessels so much demonized. Science carried out by Governments, universities, research centers and alike. Krill players do have a part of the global climate change. New vessels bring fishing and navigational technologies that lower contaminants to the sea and air. All in all, a virtuous alliance of NGO's, private companies, research centers and CCAMLR. #OceanLiteracy Have you heard of the 20°C effect?🔥🌡️ Most species can grow at 20°C. For almost all groups of animals from plants to freshwater, marine and terrestrial animals - we see that the maximum in which they occur all overlap at 20°C, which is called the "20°C effect". 🌊🐟Marine species richness levels off or declines in latitudinal bands with average annual sea surface temperatures exceeding 20 °C. As sea temperatures are rising above 20°C, especially around the equator, species are already adapting to climate change. To be specific, thousands of species have been moving away from equator regions into higher latitudes since the 1950s. Some good news as satellite remote sensing continues to advance our knowledge and understanding of these iconic species of the ice. WWF-UK has supported this international study for many years.
