Knowing that cancer runs in your family is scary. It can feel like your future has already been decided but Your genetics could be your best ally to potentially mitigating your cancer risk. Genetic testing revolutionizes the fight against cancer, offering early detection and personalized strategies to reduce your risk. Breakthroughs in genetic testing, such as identifying BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations (breast cancer) and Lynch syndrome (colorectal cancer), are empowering individuals with knowledge and actionable strategies to mitigate their cancer risks. With advancements like polygenic risk scores and multi-cancer early detection tests, we're not just fighting cancer on a personal level; we're shifting towards a culture of preventive healthcare. Check out this blog post by my colleague and co-founder, William Stanford MD, PhD that dives into more detail on how cancer risk awareness coupled with action is an important component in the fight against cancer. https://lnkd.in/ggV8yQGW #CancerPrevention #GeneticTesting #PrecisionMedicine #ProactiveHealthcare #EarlyDetection #PersonalizedMedicine

I get to talk about AI quite a bit in my professional life, but today, it’s Rare Disease Day, and the real reason AI excites me. A few years ago, my family was fortunate to be chosen to participate in the Rare & Undiagnosed Program at Mayo Clinic. And, while this isn’t a “club” anyone wishes to belong to, I have hope that by studying my family’s complete sequenced genomes, as well as other families like mine, more discoveries will be made providing critical answers. I see a better tomorrow where AI will help facilitate the discovery of currently unknown genetic conditions, faster diagnoses, improved treatments, and one day, a cure! You probably don’t really think about rare diseases after all, they’re rare, right?! However, when it impacts you or someone you love everything changes in an instant. For us, our lives were forever changed in 2015 and as a parent the feeling of helplessness can feel overwhelming at times💔 But, to my little fighter, I firmly believe one day things will look brighter. You’ve taught me real superheroes are children fighting battles unseen with the bravest, most determined hearts of all. Rare Disease Day is a globally coordinated movement working towards equity in social opportunity, healthcare, and access to diagnosis and therapies for the 300 MILLION people living with a rare disease. So today, on this rare date of February 29th, please join me in raising awareness, funding, empathy, and advocating for the people living with a rare or undiagnosed disease, as well as those tirelessly searching for solutions. #RareDiseaseDay #Awareness #Science https://lnkd.in/gZns_zi3
