Global Energy Investments: Who’s Leading? China has nearly doubled its renewable energy investments from 2019 to 2024. Impressive! In Latin America, there’s a rise in fossil fuel investments, with renewable energy showing modest growth. The U.S. continues investing heavily, but still relies on traditional energy sources. Where should we improve? India and Southeast Asia still prioritize traditional energy, but they have the potential to lead in renewables. The role of advanced countries? It's time to ramp up investments in clean energy. The future is renewable. Who do you think should lead the energy transition? Source: IEA (2024) #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #Sustainability

According to BloombergNEF’s Climatescope, Chile is the world’s most attractive Emerging Market economy for clean energy investment. Coal’s contribution to national electricity generation has fallen from 46% in 2013 to 23% in 2022, despite an increasing demand for energy in the country. A driver of this trend is the huge opportunity for solar and wind availability in the region. Supported by government legislation, renewable power has overtaken coal as a percentage of electricity generation. The nation plans to use this renewable power to become the world's leading low-cost exporter of green hydrogen. In a pivotal moment for UK's renewable energy sector, 🌿💡 the future looks brighter as Japan's energy titan, JERA, anchors its global renewables division, JERA Nex, in the heart of London. This strategic move not only cements the UK's reputation as a renewable power hub but also injects confidence into the industry. JERA's investment is a testament to the UK's robust renewable energy framework and its innovative climate. As JERA Nex will lead initiatives to "develop, invest in, and own a range of renewable assets globally," its presence in London is more than just symbolic—it's a ripple effect for growth, partnerships, and green job creation. What's inspiring is that this isn't just another business expansion. JERA Nex's commitment aligns perfectly with the global thrust towards a sustainable future. It spells progress that goes beyond economics, contributing to environmental conservation and the battle against climate change. This power play by Japan's largest energy provider reinforces the bridge of cooperation in our collective pursuit of a greener world. 🌍♻️ But think about this: how can we, as professionals across various sectors, capitalize on such bullish signals to further accelerate the renewable energy transition? #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #FutureIsGreen

♻️ How can we harness the power of renewables to transform Japan’s energy mix? On Nathalie Oosterlinck’s panel at Japan Energy Summit and Exhibition, the speakers were unanimous that renewables have a key role in Japan’s energy transition but that more needs to be done to unlock their potential. Discussion looked at how: ⚖️ While there has been progress towards scaling capacity in Japan and investment in clean energy globally has risen by 40% since 2020, further impact will require more support from governments and stable regulatory systems. 🧩 Renewables are only one piece of the puzzle. To reach Japan’s net zero by 2050 ambition while matching growing energy demand, we need to scale up renewables alongside other solutions including low carbon hydrogen and ammonia. 🗾 Global ambitions need country-specific applications, taking into account unique histories and the energy biases that come with them, as well as differing topographies. Thank you to moderator Patricia Bader-Johnston, co-panellists Tomomi Nakai, Joren Kippers and John Lee, and to dmg events for bringing together representatives from across the industry who are working towards the energy transition.
