Our journey with #Colombiancoffee and the producers behind the coffees started with a #farmerfirst approach, branching to healthy #collaborations and #partnerships, underscored by a mutual commitment to quality. To date, we’ve worked alongside 1700 farmers and established connections with over 10 Colombian #coffeefarmers associations. Our pricing model prioritises a #livingincome, ensuring our #farming partners consistently receive better prices for their coffees. Premiums are earmarked for exotic varietals, cup scores and priority assigned to multi-year purchasing agreements. Notably, our farming partners have received, on average a 60-80% increase compared to local prices, reflecting our ethos of improving the livelihoods of smallholder coffee farmers amid C-price volatility. Guided by passion and curiosity, our on-ground team has enabled Qima to work with 12+ coffee varieties, cupping over 1,100 coffees. The team has methodically traversed difficult-to-access spaces across a minimum of 12 coffee-growing regions in Colombia and sought out stories from valleys and flanks of the Andes. The effort speaks for itself; we have exported a multitude of coffees from Colombia to roasting partners across the world. Over the next few posts in the series, we will delve deeper into Qima’s Colombia operations, upholding the spirit of transparency and the inspiration that drives us to achieve excellence in #sourcing, processing, distribution and #storytelling. #sustainableagriculture #coffeeindustry #arabicacoffee Jose Julian Giraldo | Tomas Bodniza | Harlen Salazar

Vow has been approved for sale in Singapore, making it the fourth company approved globally to sell a cultivated-meat product. 🧫🇸🇬✅ Launched under the new ‘Forged’ brand label, Vow’s cultivated Japanese quail parfait will be the only cultivated meat product currently available to the public anywhere in the world. Vow CEO & Founder George Peppou compared its producing cultivated meat first as a luxury product to EVs "...starting as a premium commodity, and moving down market as the technology matures." Food Frontier CEO, Dr Simon Eassom: “Although other companies have received regulatory approval to sell their products, for various reasons cultivated meat is not on menus anywhere. This means Vow is the only company currently selling cultivated meat anywhere in the world. That’s an incredible achievement for an Australian company.” Full story here: https://lnkd.in/gHg4AWjF #futureoffood #foodinnovation #alternativeprotein #cellculture #cultivatedmeat

The Only CEO with a Mohawk! 4x Best Selling Author. Singaporean Founder. LinkedIn's Most Recommended Personal Branding Firm, Black Marketing, enhances your personal brand to make you a thought leader & win new clients
Some things were not meant to be: "After a promising beginning, is Singapore's cultivated meat industry on the way to the slaughterhouse?" Ultimately the consumer tried and said no. This is the dange of hyping sectors and companies promising financials that they can't deliver" "In two short years, the industry appears to be slowing down. In March this year, Eat Just put its lab-grown meat production at the Bedok facility on hold, the Straits Times reported. Huber’s Butchery stopped offering the product in December last year. In the same month, it was reported that Singapore-based lab-grown seafood startups Shiok Meats and Umami Bioworks were merging. And it is not just here that the industry is slowing down. A New York Times article in February detailed the decline of the industry – one which had a bright start with investors pouring over US$3 billion into the industry between 2016 and 2022. However, a mix of unrealistic optimism from investors, followed by the realisation that the science behind the product could not match consumer demand for low prices and higher volumes of production, has left the entire industry in limbo. “I have been saying in every media interview and from day one that it will take at least another decade for cultivated meat or seafood to scale and for it to be available for the consumers to buy easily in restaurants and supermarkets,” she said. “Until then, it will be a niche and premium market.” Echoing these sentiments, the authorities said the lab-grown meat industry is still nascent both globally and in Singapore." Spot on. Probably best to focus on plant based or vegetarian options instead. What do you think? Crafting chocolate starting from the cacao beans (instead of melting industrial couvertures) is already a big challenge, but we take this sweet mission many steps further 🍫 With a love for cacao born directly in El Salvador, we couldn’t just stop at making chocolate and ceremonial cacao. Our transparency and traceability values bring us back to the source of cacao through: DIRECT PARTNERSHIPS No intermediary, buyer or trader is involved. We’ve known each single supplier of our Salvadorean cacao personally for almost a decade now. Because of such close relationships, there is no “market price” to be imposed, but we discuss the price directly with our partnering farmers for a deal that feels fair and just for both parts. As a result, there has been a continuous price increase since the beginning of our project. FAMILY-OWNED FARM Finca Cuyancùa in Izalco is the family farm where we learned all we know about cacao growing and post-harvesting processes. This is also the place where some of our farming partners, such as Finca San Fernando and Finca Parras Lempa, among many other farms in El Salvador, got their cacao trees from the nurseries, learned about modern agricultural practices, fermented and dried their first harvests. Then we as VAICACAO encouraged them to empower themselves and take control of their post-harvest processes. And of course, we turn the special cacao from this enchanting farm in tree-to-bar and ceremonial cacao for you to enjoy! DIRECT IMPORT We take care of all the organization, bureaucracy and payments, but also delays, headaches and misunderstandings involved in directly importing cacao from Central America to our cacao laboratory in Olbia, Italy. It’s a whole new business on top of making chocolate and ceremonial cacao, but we wouldn’t want it any other way. We believe that the most important thing we are able to do is to encourage farmers to believe in cacao forestries, and help their crops access worldwide markets by telling their stories with pure and authentic products and constantly transmitting better prices through a vertically integrated supply structure. Learn more on how we do things on our website 👇🏼 www.vaicacao.com
