Where there's heat, there's heightened risk for fire. 🔥🧯 In response to the Davis Fire, we evaluated the data and found a correlation between the number of extreme heat days and poor air quality in Washoe County (which is often indicative of wildfires). Fire season is challenging for communities and can significantly impact quality of life, especially when it hits so close to home. Bringing the data to light, and perhaps being able to prepare, is key. 📊 United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra , one of our Quality of Life Champion sponsors, has launched an Emergency Assistance Fund to support families displaced by the Davis Fire. In the midst of disaster, staying connected with loved ones can feel overwhelming—but there are steps you can take to ensure the safety of missing children, family members, and friends. If you need to report a missing child, contact the National Emergency Child Locator Center at 1-800-843-5678. Be sure to note if the child has any disabilities or special needs. If you encounter a child separated from their caregivers, immediately notify local authorities and utilize the Unaccompanied Minors Registry to provide basic details and a recent photo of the child. For families and friends searching for loved ones in disaster-affected areas, social networks can be a critical resource. Stay informed and take action to protect those most vulnerable. 🔗Stay updated on how Hurricane Helene is impacting Black communities through The Black Resilience Network Operations Center: https://bit.ly/48f2sdS Together, we can ensure no one is left behind.
