Nadine (Deanie) Singh, DNP and founder of Premier Mobile Health Services discusses the free mobile clinic's response to Hurricanes Ian, Helene, and Milton in Fort Myers, Florida. Direct Relief provided the nonprofit Corporación La Fondita de Jesús with a mobile medical unit in 2022, paving the way for medical outreach to 37 municipalities across the island, including Vieques and Culebra, both smaller islands off of Puerto Rico’s east coast where hurricane devastation has created long-term needs. The organization connects people with health services, housing opportunities, and more.

𝐈𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 Direct Relief 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 World Health Summit 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧. Day 1 of the summit has been thought-provoking and saw the resilience and efficiency of existing global health systems against the backdrop of escalating climate change, conflict and anti-microbial resistance, quite seriously criticized. The health ministers of Germany, France, Malawi and the Director General of the World Health Organization, all underscored the current risk to health even in highly developed countries, despite the progress in science and the rapid growth in innovations. Dr. Tedros’ keynote this evening reminded us how vital trust is in achieving health equity. GAVI and The Global Fund stood for addressing the global benefit of investing in health equity, the value of the One Health approach for effective pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, and the need to adapt health systems to local population needs. The Minister of Health from Malawi brought a hugely important perspective to light, advocating for people-driven, rather than purely therapy-driven, solutions. Patient-driven solutions to access to medicines are at the core of Direct Relief’s programmatic work, and a sentiment repeated by many throughout the entire day. Today’s conversations have reinforced the importance of collaboration, transparency and trust between all stakeholders, particularly when navigating complex health challenges. This has been a valuable first day for Direct Relief at WHS, and I look forward to more insightful discussions tomorrow. 🌍 #WHS2024 #DirectRelief #GlobalHealth #TrustInHealth #ClimateHealth

The CrisisReady Direct Relief analysis of the evacuations from #HurricaneMilton was featured in the The Washington Post this morning. "Data shows evacuations began even before some counties ordered residents to leave. An analysis by the research organization CrisisReady , using cellphone tracking information collected by Meta, showed the population in Florida’s most vulnerable evacuation zones plummeting as Milton approached, while it grew in areas even just slightly more inland. In places such as St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island, the data suggests only about 1 in 10 people remained at home by the time Milton hit." https://lnkd.in/gtghcuy8 Harvard Data Science Initiative

Direct Relief had the opportunity to spend yesterday at the Spanish Lakes senior mobile home community in central Florida, which was devastated by tornados that spun out of Hurricane Milton. Was able to accompany Direct Relief's President Thomas Tighe, Sofie Fredlund-Blomst, and our long-term partners from Oceana Community Health. Oceana's Founder Dr. Youssef Motii has been leading the medical response at Spanish Lakes in coordination with all of the local and state officials. In addition to medicines and hygiene kits, Direct Relief provided all of the medical emergency backpacks that the county Search & Rescue teams required to go from house to house to help individuals out of their homes and or tragically in some cases remove the deceased. At least 8 people from Spanish Lakes lost their lives, with numerous others missing and presumed dead (almost half the state's H. Milton deaths happened in Spanish Lakes). The winds, rain, and storm surge of Hurricane Milton caused significant damage to many communities in Florida that for some will take months to recover, but the accompanying tornados did just as much damage for an estimated 85,000 Floridians who will need help for a very long time given their total loss. As it has for almost 20 years, Direct Relief will continue to support these Florida communities in their time of need, and we thank our donors for all of your help and for being a part of Direct Relief!

It takes a village…. ❤️ And we truly could not be more grateful for ours. The outpouring of donations we received this week from our village of partners will help support the health of our patients and community members in East Tennessee as they recover from Hurricane Helene. We’re very humbled to provide hygiene kits, diapers, wipes, formula, cleaning supplies, medicine, masks, safety glasses, and snacks to individuals and families we come into contact with. THANK YOU to Direct Relief, Heart to Heart International, CVS Health, Americares, Baby2Baby, and International Medical Corps for helping us strengthen our cherished community. #hurricane #healthcare #health #motherhood #Tennessee #teamwork
