"ION Storage Systems is a Maryland original. Their success underscores our state's growing leadership in science, technology, and advanced manufacturing." - Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Gov. Wes Moore and ARPA-E Director Dr. Evelyn Wang at our facility, to celebrate the recent $1 million grant awarded to us through the Build Our Future Grant Pilot Program and the $20 million awarded through ARPA-E’s SCALEUP Program. While here, Governor Moore announced an additional $11 million in funding for advanced manufacturing and technology in the state of Maryland. ION is proud to be at the forefront of innovation and Maryland’s bright future with our safer, longer-lasting solid-state batteries designed with manufacturing to scale in mind. OpEd by New York State Economic Development Council (NYSEDC) board member and President and CEO of The Agency - NY BROOME COUNTY INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY on energy capacity, reliability and future demand in the Southern Tier. Recent high-tech growth across upstate has been driven by a variety of factors, including significant R & D investment by the state and the aggressive site preparedness work of counties and regional economic development organizations. But another key factor is often overlooked — the availability of an abundance of power, along with the water and wastewater capacity required by microchip fabs, life science manufacturing, data centers and related supply chain businesses. Like any other resource, energy is finite. If we want to continue our upward trajectory, we must ensure continued access to, and reliability of, the power these sectors demand — especially as the state navigates its way toward its clean energy mandates.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) has announced over $3 million in federal funding, with an industry match of $1.9 million, to support impactful projects across three National Laboratories. These funds aim to advance clean energy solutions and are provided through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) Base Annual Appropriations Core Laboratory Infrastructure for Market Readiness (CLIMR) Lab Call. The VTO's selected projects at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. These labs are working on projects regarding enhancing gas-turbine design by reducing the computational cost of simulations, optimizing battery-electric transit bus fleets, and developing new carbon fiber manufacturing technology that will reduce energy consumption by at least 40% and increase throughput up to sixfold. #CleanEnergy #ElectricBuses #ElectricFleets #FederalFunding #CleanTransportation

Amazing innovation from VEIR! The hard truth about expanding Transmission is that no one wants to see it, and no one wants to pay for it. Tim Heidel and Steve Ashworth, co-founders of VEIR, have developed high-temperature superconducting tapes and materials in combination with a passive cooling system using nitrogen that will allow for impressive scaling of our Grid. Check it out!

Who said Moore's Law is dead? Lots of people that I will avoid calling out! 😀 However, onsemi is proving that wrong and keeping the next generation of Moore's Law alive by applying these concepts to the development of its silicon carbide technology platforms. The company announced plans today to develop multiple generations in parallel and accelerate its roadmap to bring several new platforms to market by 2030. It all starts today with the launch of the EliteSiC M3e MOSFETs, which will play a fundamental role in enabling the performance and reliability of next-gen electrical systems. Global energy demands are projected to soar over the next decade thanks to surging demand for artificial intelligence and electrification. This makes the need for innovation and increased efficiency in power semiconductors paramount. #weAREonsemi #sustainabletechnology #semiconductors #innovation #technology #siliconcarbide #mooreslaw #artificialintelligence #electrification
