🚀 Q1 2024 numbers are out and here's what we found: European VC is going through some mixed cycles, especially compared with 2023 the results are pretty...vague. Some sectors are surging ahead, while others show more modest growth. Here’s a quick snapshot: 1️⃣ Deals are getting bigger but fewer: Total deal value in Q1 rose to €16.3b, a 19.1% increase from last year. Focus on quality over quantity, with a notable drop in deal count. A focus on larger, potentially more mature ventures or those capable of attracting significant funding in a tough environment. 2️⃣ Sectors to watch: Cleantech leads with €6.8b already, over half of 2023’s total! Biotech & Pharma and AI also remain strong contenders. 3️⃣ Exits still tepid: No significant recovery in exit activity yet, most being acquisitions. 4️⃣ Fundraising shows resilience: €4.6B raised across 47 vehicles, suggesting a stronger year than 2023. Most rounds closed were smaller than €250m. More emerging fund closes than previously. Congrats to Plural (at €400m), Partech (at €360m) and Octopus Investments (at €307.6m) for marking the largest rounds of the quarter! 📈 While VC returns are still weak, this year’s trends also reveal a strategic move towards quality investments with resilience in valuations. 🔗 Thanks to PitchBook and KPMG US for these insights! #VentureCapital #InvestmentTrends #EuropeanVC
