I am a Manchester United fan and a fan of Ben Foster and Fozcast - The Ben Foster Podcast (and Tom Ochoa whose comment put this in my path) - - which was my introduction to Mark Goldbridge and his work. Unbeknownst to me, my teenage son already knew Mark and was consuming his content from here in the US. Community that Mark references below is so important for everything we do. If you try to create for everyone, you really create for no one. Create the work that you love and that you are passionate about. Find the audience that will come along with you because they like what you stand for and they appreciate your work. Even when that audience grows - stay true to yourself. What a great example to have a community show up in a unique way for a unique event to watch along together and share the experience of a Super Bowl in the UK in the dead of the night! Sports Business Classes - - Consuming sports through nontraditional channels is here to stay. Twitch, YouTube, Instagram, and other outlets are allowing viewers a sports experience that builds and serves a specific community. What are the advantages of this alternative experience, like the Watch-Along below? What could larger broadcasters learn from it? How have some broadcasters already altered their approach? What are the risks in this approach? Finally - - One concept to throw in BARRIERS TO ENTRY. What are the barriers to entry to begin to create a community like Mark has? (Hint - not many barriers... but hard work, consistency, persistence, resilience, and some more consistency are pretty important along the way!) The Belonging Playbook is comprised of ten distinct tools that are crafted to establish a more welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals to authentically express themselves and experience sport in a more positive way. It has been organized into sections that are designed to help community sport organizations with three key activities: promote diversity, foster inclusion, and remove barriers to participation. Unity in Diversity: What We Can Learn from the Olympic Spirit The tragic events in Southport have sparked a wave of violence and unrest, leaving communities feeling deeply divided. In contrast, the Olympics in Paris have shown a powerful display of unity amid competition, highlighting the potential of coming together, even in rivalry. Returning to the UK after a decade in Australia, where I worked with the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, I've seen firsthand the impact of creating spaces where people feel heard. In a world where some leaders are encouraging chaos and division, it's time for us to come together and find unity in our diversity. Our work at Morris Hargreaves McIntyre increasingly focuses on inclusivity, diversity, and intergenerational engagement. Cultural spaces play a crucial role in uniting communities and encouraging dialogue, offering platforms for meaningful conversations and reflections. I’ve always admired Manchester’s history of resilience and unity. As we navigate these challenging and divisive times, supporting and engaging with communities, places and spaces is vital.
