2024 kick off at GS2 💪 Last Monday, I hosted our 2024 kick off for our growing team. We had a great afternoon comprising off… 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞: To set the scene for communication - Articulate never fails! 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤: Some pre work by all meant we could work on and create our values - more to come on this! 𝐐𝟏 𝐎𝐊𝐑’𝐬: Aligning both a top down and bottom up approach, we discussed our KR’s and which initiatives the teams could collaborate on. Great to see the ownership and accountability grow! 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬: Highlighting individual success and contribution - more to come on this also! 🥇 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Looking forward and painting a picture of our future, sharing career development criteria and setting ambitious moonshot targets 🌎 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥: Finishing with some (mainly non alcoholic) drinks at our local 🍾 I believe transparency is key to a successful business, along with having great people who are aligned with the vision and who can execute the strategy. At GS2 we are so lucky to have the people, which makes it easy for me, to be transparent and open about our future direction as I know we will make it happen. Can’t wait to see where we take these next 12 months! Lets GO 🚀 🚀

Hello friends, scientists and communicators! Here is a little #mondaymotivation for you all. At CSIRO Publishing I run so many workshops and very frequently hear participants say "my English isn't good enough for academic writing" or "I'm not confident with my English." I have a confession: Despite teaching writing for a living, good spelling and grammar don't come easily to me and I've had to put in the practice. In fact the post I'm sharing comes from someone who was extremely patient with my early academic writing efforts and personally inspires me. Dr Michael Seery shares a mural from their workplace at the Centre for Academic Language and Develop at the University of Bristol: "Academic Language is no one's mother tongue". I would like to add that no one is born a good writer - there are just people that have had more practice at it! I hope this inspires you today to put aside your worries about being a "good writer", sit down and write for 15 minutes and practice writing some words on a page. The development team is waiting. ♟️ Over the years, I have experienced this a lot, and I have had great success in 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 to move from chaos to structure in only five days. Hannah van der Vord, Sam Osborne, Lauren Eager exploring all of the work you're doing in your channels was fascinating and how they all interconnect and ladder-up to our goals was so fun. It was great to see all the hard work you've accomplished in 2024 and all you have left to do was absolutely invigorating. Joelle Rodenroth & Cecily Spikes...what is there to say!? You're both absolute powerhouses and I can't wait to keep celebrating your wins every week (because at this point, it is every week!). Thank you for always using marketing's email sequences, blogs, and social posts to bolster your amazing outreach. It means so much! Diving deeper into the foundational ops work Kristen Archer & Kayla Chabola do was fascinating (and I've never been so happy to see so many reports -- your work in Hubspot was used in almost every presentation!). The thoughtful work Jessica Snyder (she/her) and Kyle Lautan are doing to ensure our employer clients have an above-and-beyond experience was wonderful (and helps explain our insane 93 NPS!).

I go out of my way to attend GDC each year because it's an opportunity to step back and take stock of this industry. This year, the conversations I had felt even more valuable than usual. Here are some of my takeaways from this past week: 1. I was surprised to find so much alignment with my own AI takes: a) its a paradigm shift in tooling b) most of the most exciting elements are in regards to workflow efficiency, automated ad hoc testing, game balance, funnel optimization innovations, player lifetime monetization potential, and community moderation - NOT asset generation. 2. Insanely cool deals are happening still and I and a few friends managed to close a variety of deals during the week. The deals were all atypical compared to the before times but some people really are finding funding. 3. I found out I wasn't the only one completely overwhelmed by the job candidate pool. With so much talent on the market, filling roles is taking more time than ever over the past six months. Choice paralysis is very real. 4. I didn't get the sense that anybody actually sees what is next. Lots of theories and not a lot of credible conviction about where we as an industry are going. 5. Companies are looking for places to hide not just through 2024 but also through 2025. 6. Nobody is safe and every sector is facing unique and unprecedented challenges. About all we can do is try to get by with as little spend as possible while finding ways to miraculously fill our pipelines for the next few years. 7. People are still awesome and there is nothing like the excitement that I get from a GDC trip! It continues to be my annual reset and also my north star for how I approach the year. I will not hesitate to go again next year (though I would not be mad if we moved it to another city!) I'd love to hear your thoughts and takeaways as well.
