In 907 CE, after three centuries of significant technological advances, social stability, and economic and cultural prosperity, the “Golden Age” of China’s Tang Dynasty closed. After being largely ignored for a thousand years, in the 1970s the Tang era’s beautiful fired-clay earthenware was rediscovered. At Standard Gas Technologies, we also take a plentiful resource and use it to create some things we consider beautiful and valuable. In our case, that’s transforming wastes we can’t recycle into sustainable, renewable, carbon-removing energy to power homes, buildings, businesses, and transportation. But it won’t take a thousand years for you to discover us. Join the evolution – be the change. Head of Content and Strategic Communication at Sisvel and member of the advisory board of Iprova. Founder and former editor-in-chief of IAM.
We can kid ourselves that China is out-innovating the West because it steals our IP. We can impose tariffs that protect our own industries, dampen competition, deny consumers choice and slow the route to Net Zero. Or we can accept we dropped the ball and gifted the Chinese a pathway to technology leadership that they are going to follow relentlessly. The solution to being out-innovated is not to shut Chinese tech and products out. It is to roll up our sleeves and embrace the strategic long-term thinking, engineering focus and R&D investment that have actually turbocharged China’s progress. That’s the only way to secure sustainable change.
