🔬 In the study "Cryo-EM structures of prokaryotic ligand-gated ion channel GLIC provide insights into gating in a lipid environment", Bharambe et al. used #cryoEM to examine the influence of the lipid environment on the conformational dynamics of the prokaryotic ligand-gated #ionchannel (GLIC). 👨🔬 Through high-resolution structures of the channel reconstituted in lipid nanodiscs, researchers uncovered several distinct conformational states different from the previously observed structures of the detergent-solubilized GLIC. 🔎 The research unveiled state-specific interactions between GLIC and lipid molecules, suggesting the involvement of the lipid environment in stabilizing the different functional states of the channel. 💡 These findings provide insights into the role of membrane lipids in ion channels gating and regulation, and could potentially impact #drugdiscovery efforts targeting these #membraneproteins. 📑 Read it now: https://lnkd.in/g8yXEKhH
