This week The Full Circle Collective is starting with its supplier profiles, where we share the stories with you about the inspiring sustainable and circular enterprises who are stocking us with products and services that don’t cost the earth. Our featured supplier this week is Food2Soil Pty Ltd, a company founded by two female entrepreneurs Annabel Schweiger and Josie Grenfell who have created Australia’s first biofertiliser made entirely from reclaimed waste streams. We at The Full Circle Collective love the Food2Soil products because they’re a practical example of how food waste (one of our largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions) can be diverted into a sustainable and affordable natural gardening product. So far, Food2Soil has transformed more than 26,000kg of food waste into powerful plant food, thereby preventing more than 50,000kg of CO2 emissions. And Food2Soil’s fermentation process makes for probiotic-rich fertiliser that is great for your plants. How good is that! Check out this video for the story. https://lnkd.in/gFUbGa_n

Reusing byproducts and putting layer meat back into human food are just a few ways that the poultry, egg producer is working to build a circular food system. Sandra Vijn, managing director USA, Kipster Learn More: https://lnkd.in/gVWS9wGq #PoultryIndustry #Byproducts #CircularEconomy

One of Kipster’s goals is to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible. Feed has a large impact. For example, the production of soy and corn in both Europe and the U.S. contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution from fertilizer use. Soy from South America is used in feed in Europe and may have been produced on recently converted or deforested precious natural habitats for wildlife. In the U.S., land conversion happens in one of the world’s last remaining intact temperate grasslands – the Northern Great Plains, which is making way for crops such as wheat, corn, canola, and soy, according to PlowPrint reports from WWF We aim to by-pass the use of agricultural lands for feed altogether, but we are not quite there yet. In the U.S., the feed consists of around 66% of by-products from food and crop processing. We’ll keep working to increase the share of by-products and waste from the food system in the coming years, and to assess if any of these ingredients are potentially associated with land conversion.
