Investing in apprentices is the key to future dealership success.

We currently have apprentices enrolled from level 2, all the way to degree level. As we finish off #nationalapprenticeshipweek we take at look at how apprenticeships can continue developing your #skillsforlife even as you advance through your career. Monika is our Warehouse Team Leader at our Freudenberg Sealing Technologies Rugby site and one of our current cohort of 8 managers going through a level 3 supervisor apprenticeship. Monika said she is a better manager for having started the apprenticeship and the most important skill that she's developed is a different approach to her emotions in managing stressful situations which has delivered great results alredy. Having managers that are competent and confident in their skills and knowledge to lead their teams is a cornerstone of our people management approach; apprenticeships are a vital tool to deliver this. #freudenberg #innovatingtogether

We continue to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week and all that can be achieved via the apprenticeship route. I caught up with Matt Hale, Team Leader, Repairs, to find out more about what his CMI Level 3 Apprenticeship has meant to him.   What did you study and what was your result? - CMI Level 3 – Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership. I passed with a distinction.   How long have you been at Aster and what was your original role? - I’ve been working at Aster Group UK now for just over ten years. I started in the Contact Centre, moving into Sales and now, most recently, Response Repairs.   What made you want to do an apprenticeship and why a leadership one? - I had been looking at getting into a managerial/leadership role for a while. I was part of the first ‘Aster Leadership Development Programme’ with the CMI opportunity being offered after this. I hadn’t yet stepped into a leadership role, so when offered the chance to do this apprenticeship I thought it was a great opportunity to develop my skill set.   How did you find the qualification? - It was great. I found it informative and learned some key leadership skills which will no doubt support me moving forwards. It was great to work on this qualification alongside colleagues who I have known since day one of starting at Aster. It was difficult at times to strike the right balance of work, the qualification and home life but I got there in the end and feel proud of the accomplishment.   What’s been your biggest learning takeaway point from completing the apprenticeship? - I’ve taken quite a few different elements of the course away with me and used them in my new role as a Team Leader, for example, areas around project management, budgeting concepts and different leadership styles. However, the biggest takeaway has to be increased confidence. My confidence has rocketed in terms of presenting and speaking to larger groups. These were skills I acknowledged at the very start as a weakness of mine, so I worked hard on developing these. I now feel confident when talking in front of larger groups and feel comfortable doing presentations now both in person, and remotely over Teams.   What’s your aspirations for the future? - I recently applied for, and secured, a Team Leader role in the Response Repairs team in Somerset. I’m keen to get as much experience as I can within this role with regards to management and leadership. From here, I will look to take on a higher qualification. I feel like the sky is the limit.   What would you say to a colleague who was considering doing an apprenticeship to gain a qualification? - I would say definitely go for it. You’ll meet new people and learn plenty. It can be tough at times with the balance but speak with your leader and tutor about this as it shouldn’t be a barrier that stops you from going for it. Meet Gary Byrne: Motoring Up the Career Ladder! Celebrating National #apprenticeship Week 2024 with an inspiring story of resilience and career growth. Gary, a seasoned sales specialist from #oldham , challenges the misconception that apprenticeships are just for school leavers. At 40, Gary decided to seize the opportunity to further his education and skills. Working in the automotive industry for Oldham Audi (part of Jardine Motors Group), he's now on the verge of completing his Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship with Realise. Gary's journey began with a desire for personal and professional development. He debunked the myth that formal education has an age limit, securing his GCSE equivalents in maths and English along the way. Gary shares, "It's not what I thought I'd be doing in my 40s, but it's been an absolutely brilliant experience. I can't speak highly enough of Jardine for providing the opportunity and Realise for the training they've provided." 👏 Realise trainer Charlotte Gregory tailored sessions to individuals, making a significant impact on the apprenticeship experience. After returning from a rejuvenating week with friends, I'm diving back into work, eager to catch up. Among the highlights of my return was the joy of reading about Mitie's inaugural Apprenticeship Awards. As Penny Mordaunt aptly put it, "Apprenticeships are the backbone of a skilled workforce, providing individuals with the opportunity to learn, earn and contribute to their communities." I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the winners across our business, with special recognition for the outstanding achievements of Keaton Leith and Sam Berry from Mobile Technical Services. Keaton, a Level 3 Refrigeration Air and Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering Technician Apprentice from Manchester, clinched the top prize for Technical Apprentice of the Year, while Sam, an Operations Manager from Stockport, was rightly awarded Apprenticeship Champion of the Year. Such accomplishments are not just a testament to the hard work and dedication of these individuals but also reflect the exceptional leadership and support provided by Alan Robinson - CIWFM, Head of Operations, and Chris Thompson, Operations Director, of the winning business unit. Having been a technical apprentice myself, I understand firsthand the significance of apprenticeships in laying the groundwork for lifelong learning and career advancement. Indeed, the journey doesn't end with these qualifications; there are always opportunities for further growth, be it through management qualifications or advanced technical training. Business and technical apprenticeships offer a myriad of benefits for both employers and employees alike. From providing a steady stream of skilled talent to fostering personal and professional development, apprenticeships play a pivotal role in driving mutual growth and productivity within the workforce. 🌟 Exciting News from PCD! 🌟 We are thrilled to share that we are developing a new initiative, thanks to a "Schools to Work" grant from the PA Department of Labor & Industry's Apprenticeship & Training Office. Introducing TAPA—Transition Accommodated Pre-Apprenticeship—our pilot program will be focused on Manufacturing. But what does "Transition" mean in this context? It refers to high school students with special needs who are preparing to transition into the workforce or their next life stage - which may soon mean apprenticeship! Through a strong collaboration with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit, we recognized a critical need for work-based learning opportunities for underserved transition students before they graduate. TAPA is being designed to bridge this gap and provide these students with the experiences they need for a successful future. We are excited to continue developing this important program and look forward to sharing more updates as we progress. I’m a little late to National Apprenticeship Week, but, feel the need to wade in (i know ! i can’t help myself and … don’t mind if i do 🤣 ) … I find myself reflecting on the exceptional journey of an outstanding individual who embodies the spirit of ambition, leadership, and continuous growth. It's a story that I believe deserves to be shared far and wide – the story of Divya Five years ago, Divya stepped into the world of apprenticeships, joining my team at Chubb Fire & Security Group. But, she was not just any apprentice; she was a bundle of determination, eager to learn, to contribute, and to exceed expectations. With a clear vision for her future and an unwavering commitment to personal and professional development, Divya embarked on a path … What sets Divya apart (in my humble opinion) was not just her ambition but her profound passion for her work and the environment she contributed into. Her drive to push boundaries and her thirst for knowledge were there for all to see from day one. Divya wasn't content with the status quo; she sought to challenge it, to be more, to do more. Fast forward ⏩ to today, and the strides Divya has made are nothing short of remarkable. From an eager apprentice to a proficient Change Manager, she now leads projects for multimillion-pound client organisations, across Aviation, Construction and Security settings driving change, fostering innovation, and inspiring those around her. Yet, despite her accomplishments, Divya's journey is far from over. Her thirst for learning is unquenched, her drive undiminished, and her ambitions looming large. Divya's story is a testament to what can be achieved with passion, perseverance, patience and an unrelenting drive to succeed. It's a reminder to all apprentices out there that the path to success is not linear. It requires courage, hard work, and the determination to dream big. Your journey is yours to shape. In the next few days, 339 young people will begin their apprenticeship or dual study program at the German locations of Lufthansa Technik. The number of new apprentices is therefore slightly higher than last year. Despite the challenging training market, Lufthansa Technik filled 94 percent of the available places Lufthansa Technik attracted a particularly large number of applicants for industrial professions this year. At the Hamburg site alone, a total of 12 percent more advertised positions were filled across all disciplines compared to the previous year. In addition to the various apprenticeships, the company offers different dual study programs.
