At Spangdahlem AB 📍 training the US military on #iOAT FPL, the improved Operational Air Traffic flight plan. 💡 #iOAT is an important civil-military ✈️🛦 coordination measure that allows military flight plan processing across national boundaries in a harmonised way, offering key benefits at a time when the European #aviation network is seeing raised levels of military activity. The training was a 1️⃣st pilot course designed to introduce the iOAT FPL concept and its future in Europe to military stakeholders, as well as to share information on EUROCONTROL & practical information on how to contact our #NMOC Network Manager Operations Centre. ✈ iOAT FPLs can now be received, processed & distributed by the EUROCONTROL Network Manager (#NM) systems in a centralised manner - significantly benefiting both civil & military operational stakeholders ✈️🛦. Coordinating closely with EUROCONTROL, Belgium 🇧🇪 Germany 🇩🇪 and France 🇫🇷 have agreed to be the pilot States for iOAT flight plan initial implementation. Germany and France have pledged to begin using iOAT in July 2024, with Belgium following suit in January 2025. And several other Member States are participating in the initial roll-out as observers. The iOAT FPL is a critical element developed under #SESAR – the European partnership to use research & innovation to accelerate the delivery of the #DigitalEuropeanSky. Once fully rolled out across Europe, iOAT FPL will harmonise procedures for the cross-border transit of aircraft, including remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (#RPAS), and training & test flights which do not comply with all standard IFR rules. 👉 Based on the experiences from this first pilot course in Spangdahlem, #TeamEUROCONTROL experts will now look at how & when new iOAT training courses can be delivered to other interested #aviation stakeholders.
