Customers are expecting emails during Memorial Day weekend. However… Don’t let your brand forget what Memorial Day is all about. Here is what we are doing: 1) Emails start going out today and carry through Memorial Day. 2) Offers will be decent, but we are NOT a discount brand. This is not one of our “sale pillars” and will not be treated like so. 3) Every email will be thanking our veterans, those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice, as well as all dogs who served! 4) 10% of all proceeds during the weekend will go to The Warrior Dog Foundation. #3 coupled with #4 > #2 Sales are great. Boosting revenue is awesome. Watching orders flow in is phenomenal. But being a good human being wins every time. Don’t forget that. Don’t forget what Memorial Day is all about.

Memorial Day We have much to be thankful for as citizens of this country. Memorial Day provides an opportunity to be thankful for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country while serving in the US Armed Forces. Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was held on May 30th, 1868, and remained on That date until 1971, when it was changed to the 4th Monday of May and officially became Memorial Day.  Memorial Day traditions involve marking the graves where those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice are eternally laid to rest. It is also a day for parades and cookouts. For many, it is also the first weekend of summer. Several years back, I had the opportunity to visit Normandy American Cemetery, located in Colleville-su-mer, France. Standing on those grounds took my breath away. To me, it was sacred ground. The Normandy American Cemetery is adjacent to the cliff overlooking Omaha Beach. Omaha Beach was one of four beaches used on June 6, 1944, when Allied forces launched Operation Overlord, or D-Day. I have always wondered about the mindset of those men on that day. They had to jump out of an airplane or disembark a ship in the face of heavy enemy activity. They had to have fear, but they also had to understand that the only way to make it back home was to take that first step and fight. The Generation that endured the hardships of this time is known as the Greatest Generation. One of the things that made this generation great was that they understood the consequences. All of our choices have consequences. You can choose not to act on your dreams but must embrace the consequences. You can build up that wall that keeps out the fear of uncertainty, but that is also the same wall that keeps out the joy you will experience having your dream become your reality. As you take time to pause this weekend in remembrance of Memorial Day, remember your dreams. Remember how they have excited you. Never forget those times when you told yourself that one day, you would take that step, Today is that day. Don’t let the fear of the unknown hold you back. It is a solemn occasion to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Here are some respectful ways to commemorate their memory without making it about ourselves: Attend a Memorial Service: Participate in a local ceremony or virtual event to show your respect, not to showcase your presence. Visit a Memorial or Cemetery: Pay your respects quietly by visiting a war memorial or a veteran's cemetery, without turning it into a photo opportunity. Support Gold Star Families: Offer genuine support to families who have lost loved ones in service, rather than using it as a platform for your own visibility. Educate Yourself and Others: Learn and share the stories of those who served and sacrificed, focusing on their bravery rather than your role in sharing the story. Pause for a Moment of Silence: At 3 p.m. local time, join the National Moment of Remembrance, not for show but out of genuine respect. Volunteer: Dedicate your time to veteran organizations or causes that support our service members and their families, keeping the focus on their needs rather than your contributions. This Memorial Day, let’s commit to reflection, gratitude, and truly honoring the memories of our fallen heroes. ENSURING THE LEGACY OF THOSE WHO GAVE ALL As Memorial Day approaches, I find myself in a familiar routine: checking on the areas that hold so many memories, both bitter and sweet. Memorial Day is a time for reflection and remembrance, It’s also a time to help those still affected by the wars, to rebuild lives, and to make sure sacrifices were not in vain. My experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan are etched into my mind, from walking through Baghdad, a city that dates back to 762 AD to standing before Alexander's Castle, a relic from over 2000 years ago. Our mission was clear, but the region's history made things complicated. Reflecting on my time there, I often wonder: What is the true cost of war? How do we help those who were affected by the war? Questions not easily answered. The constant danger, losing friends, and the moral challenges of war leave deep scars. These experiences force you to grow up quickly, facing life’s fragility and harsh realities. Philosophically, my journey has taken me from feeling that life is meaningless (nihilism) to searching for personal meaning (existentialism). Seeing the chaos and destruction of war can make life feel pointless. The loss of life and the struggle for peace can make one question everything. In the years after my service, I traveled a lot, looking for something to fill the void left by war. This emptiness is common among veterans, a sense of something missing that civilian life can't fill. For me, the answer was in storytelling. By traveling and immersing myself in different cultures, I wanted to understand people better and to find stories that needed to be told. This journey helped me connect with people from all walks of life, gaining insights that enriched my perspective and gave me a new sense of purpose. I dedicated myself to telling stories, to highlight the struggles and successes of human kind. My experiences as a young Army Ranger have given me a unique perspective, one that I hope can help others understand and appreciate the complexities of human existence. Even if it means helping in the smallest ways, whether by sharing stories, supporting veterans, or advocating for those still affected by the conflicts, every effort counts.
