Three reasons for attending IBC 2024 at the RAI. So after mulling it over….. I have decided that the International Broadcasting Convention is a definite no brainer. To attend or not attend? Yes, if you can spare several days in a terrific location, IBC 2024 looks like an amazing experience. https://.https://lnkd.in/gwAU_QUj 1. The location: There are so many fun ways to get to Amsterdam including the party train with a marching band leaving from London on the first day of the conference via the Eurostar. https://lnkd.in/gN5Zr75q (When was the last time you took a party train ….. to do business on the way to a business meeting?) 2. The fantastic happy hours such as bowling at a nearby alley, and a piano bar. Such originality should be rewarded, There is something for everyone including a pizza party for AI experts. 3. The opportunity to see new technology and ideas such as the accelerator project AI media production lab. For example, Brian Eno and Brain One have produced a documentary with infinitely different versions for each viewing. (Just imagine what the major production studios will do with this idea.) I am anxious to pay this lab a visit. Not to forget the young audience. There are multi day networking events designed just for students and young adults in the industry. I was really impressed by the sponsor ,” Pictures for the People “, a social enterprise organization from the UK. They have a stunning website and their mission is to employ disadvantaged people in the media industry. I wish we had a model like this for young people in the USA. https://lnkd.in/gCVH8Zp8 https://lnkd.in/gTzxMVzf

Interesting read by CBC on the struggles and cancellations faced by Canadian festivals. As an event organizer, I can relate to the challenges faced by large-scale events during and post the pandemic. Hosting costs have increased by 25-50% in just a few years, but it’s difficult to pass on those cost increases to customers. Have you faced similar challenges as an organizer? Let's discuss in the comments. #eventorganizer #canadianfestivals #eventplanning #pandemicchallenges #costs #eventindustry Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions, Canadian Association of Exposition Management, International Live Events Association (ILEA), MPI -Meeting Planners International- , Meetings Mean Business Canada Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/g4C25s6P

Editor of StandOut magazine and Content Manager at Event Buyers Live. Writing passionately about the live events industry. Happy in a hi vis, talking to events professionals
This time last week, I was in Manchester. The Fair invited me to deliver a panel session at the Night Time Industries Association's Night-Time Economy Summit. I sat alongside Ricky Oscroft Fran Martin Charlotte Maynard and Eimear Deane and discussed the evolving relationship between brands and festival promoters. Do promoters have what brands want and what can brands expect for their money? It was an interesting chat, especially as the session came one day after the news of Standon Calling's postponement. Indeed, the festival market is in the spotlight. Festivals are cancelling, and sadly, Standon Calling won't be the last event to announce its cancellation. So, it got me thinking. What impact does festival cancellation news have on the sponsorship market? Are cancellations making brands nervous about sponsoring events? If so, what steps could promoters take to reassure brands that their event will go ahead and if brands want reassurance, what reasonable proof is OK, and not OK, to ask for? Let me know your thoughts... #EventSponsorship #Festivals #Eventprofs #EventMarketing

ChristchurchNZ invites interested parties to review the delivery and curation opportunity for the World Buskers Festival 2025–2027 and to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) if they wish to be considered for an invitation to respond to the Request for Proposal (RFP). The World Buskers Festival (WBF) has entertained audiences in Christchurch since 1994. ChristchurchNZ took over the responsibility for the Festival in 2018 as part of our Major Events mandate for Christchurch. We recently commissioned an independent strategic review to establish a 10-year growth strategy alongside a 3-year implementation plan to ensure a sustainable future for the WBF with the aim to grow the impact of the Festival to deliver against the outcomes sought through the city’s Major Events Strategy. 📄 Respondents who wish to submit an EOI must complete this document: https://lnkd.in/gsk-6CgF 📁 Applicants must fill out Appendices 2, 3, and 4 before Friday 10 May 2024 5pm. 📧 Email them to major.events@christchurchnz.com Please be advised that during the EOI process, no questions, enquiries or responses will be facilitated or entered into. ChristchurchNZ may, at its discretion and in adherence to the EOI Terms & Conditions, initiate a closed RFP process starting on the 14 June 2024. Responses received after the closing date and time may not be accepted.

As Autumn sets, I have been reflecting on summer and particularly the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As a resident I have to admit it, I don’t like the Fringe. The city comes to a standstill, you can’t get anything done or go anywhere and there are just people everywhere. But, as a businessman, I cannot deny how much money the Fringe brings into the Scottish economy. The Edinburgh Fringe is the biggest arts and cultural event in the world. After the Olympics and Football World Cup, it is the third highest ticketed event in the world. So, it’s not going anywhere. And why should it? There has been a big drive to reduce access to the Fringe recently, remove investment and make it smaller. But Fringe showcases Scotland to the world. Why would we try and slow down the one month that has more impact on the city than all the other months combined - every single year? If anything, we need to be investing more into it. It needs better management, I think everyone can agree with that. There needs to be a way to allow for sustainable growth and a correct distribution of profits from the festival. But it can’t end. Fringe needs to be allowed to flourish, so Edinburgh can continue to flourish.

Last weekend, thousands of festival-goers travelled to Meco to the Super Bock Super Rock festival! SIBS, as the official payment partner with #MBWAY, has analysed some data from the three days of the festival. The results of #SIBSANALYTICS showed that: 👉A total of 58,000 transactions were made over the three days and festival-goers spent on average 25 euros per card during the festival; 👉 93% of the payments were made with Portuguese cards; 👉 34% of the payments were made with #MBWAY and 23% of these were made with the #MBWAY eco option active which contributed to a saving of 1.2kg in CO2. The collaboration between SIBS and the festival allowed all the festival-goers to experience an innovative and sustainable event, with even more convenient and eco-friendly payment methods! Discover these and other results that reflect the impact of the partnership between SIBS and Super Bock Super Rock through our infographic: #SIBSistrust #SIBSisinnovation #SIBSisexcellence #SIBSisintegrity

Funding boost to enliven City’s street-based events 🏙️✨🕺 Transport for NSW has announced that City of Wagga Wagga is one of 16 NSW local government areas to receive $500,000 through the Permit/Plug/Play Pilot Program. The funding will be used to streamline the delivery of street-based events by enhancing event infrastructure and reducing operational costs for organisers. This will improve event management processes and support the city's cultural, economic, and social activities. Plans include developing pre-approved Traffic Control Plan templates and installing infrastructure such as retractable road bollards, electrical provisions, and additional lighting. The funds will also support the Festival of W 2025, demonstrating the new processes and infrastructure in action. The project will focus on Baylis Street (Morrow to Fitzmaurice streets), Morrow Street (Baylis to Peter streets), and Burns Way. Learn more >>https://bit.ly/3XDn7Dz 📸 Festival of W 2024
