In response, Eurac Research and South Tyrol's leading network operator have launched SustainGRID, a groundbreaking research project. Supported by the initiative Fusion Grant, this fosters collaboration between research and industry, paving the way for innovative solutions. The impact? Research & Innovation #FusionGrant, is the initiative promoted by Stiftung Südtiroler Sparkasse Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano in collaboration with NOI Techpark, Südtiroler Wirtschaftsring and Rete Economia Alto Adige, in which three of our researchers are directly involved with as many South Tyrolean companies. In the project #SustainGRID we worked closely with Edyna, with whom we are developing a design and analysis model that can be used to identify those areas of the #grid where the growth of #photovoltaic systems will be particularly high. 

We're thrilled to announce the establishment of the Electric Power Innovation for a Carbon-Free Society (EPICS) Centre, which will fast-track the development of a completely renewable energy power grid – a major hurdle in decarbonising the energy sector. Professor Pierluigi Mancarella will serve as the Australian EPICS Centre Principal Investigator. He says: "This Global Centre will leverage transformative computing, economic strategies, engineering solutions and forward-thinking policy to help achieve the changes that are needed in an ambitious timeframe. This conference series has been a significant gathering since its inception in 1994, marked by the inaugural TPV conference hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Copper Mountain, Colorado. After a decade of virtual gatherings, the 15th edition of the conference is slated to return to an onsite format in Madrid, Spain. The return to an onsite format provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate the remarkable 30-year history of the TPV conference series. Over the past three decades, TPV technology has undergone significant progress, evolving from early challenges such as the absence of efficient III-V semiconductors to the recent development of devices achieving record efficiencies exceeding 40%. What a day at Rystad Energy APAC Summit event! An entire day of great networking with the industry, followed by an excellent and well received presentation across the energy landscape by my esteemed colleagues including a presentation on #CCUS from me. key takeaways from the presentation - 1. 2023 is likely emerge as the New record year surpassing 2022's record annual announcment of CO2 capture capacity. 2. As the shift is increasing towards permanent storage for the upcoming CCUS projects the onground gap to storage is evident. And under such a situation the lack of enough well regulated CO2 storage licensing mechanism could be a major inhibitor for progressing with such permanent storage projects. Currently only three key hubs exist in the world for well regulated and more classified CO2 storage licensing - US onshore, North sea hub in Europe and Australia in APAC. However this can also be a major driver for the emerging space of cross border ccs projects. 3. From such a cross border perspective in APAC region, Australia and SE Asia like Malaysia and Indonesia are well positioned. Nevertheless, despite having a lot of favourabilities in the different technical and technological aspects of the ccs value chain, the key challenge still pertains from the regulatory perspective. Although in the past one year a significant momentum is envisaged in the policy sector for APAC countries, it is still not enough to drive the ccus space to an extent comparable to North America or West Europe. And this could be one of the key reasons for entailing high risk associated with upcoming projects which could lead to sufficient delays and cost overruns. Last month, at the International Conference on Business, Technology, and Innovation hosted by the University for Business and Technology (UBT), I had the privilege of presenting a collaborative article worked by me and my colleges Agron Bislimi and Arbesa Nikaj. The paper, titled " Exploring Current Trends, Innovations, and Advancements in Wind Energy, as well as its Potential and Future Prospect,” analyses the global pursuit of sustainable and cleaner energy sources, placing wind energy at the forefront of innovative solutions to address energy security and climate change challenges. The evolution of wind energy technologies encompasses a wide spectrum of innovations, ranging from improvements in turbine design and efficiency to breakthroughs in energy storage and grid integration. The paper aims to contribute valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on sustainable energy and its role towards a cleaner and more resilient future.
