🌳 Standing amidst the breathtaking landscape, here's a chestnut tree thriving in the unexpected subtropical climate of the Canary Islands! 🍂 At an altitude of around 800 meters, this chestnut tree showcases the diverse climates found on these islands, ranging from subtropical beaches to alpine regions. As you can see, the fall has already begun, with chestnuts scattered on the ground. Surprising as it may be, these chestnut trees are a fantastic addition to your food forest if you're in a higher-altitude area. Their resilience and ability to bear fruits consistently make them a valuable resource. Reflecting on history, chestnut trees played a crucial role in helping communities, such as the Cathars in southern France and the people of Corsica, survive famines. The U.K. may have more redwoods than where they are native in California. How does this help with carbon sequestration, forest resiliency with climate change, and considerations for urban forestry planning? From my view this reinforces how foresters and communities should be deliberate in leveraging forests for positive change. This likely means local decisions will be different across global communities and should include perspectives like traditional ecological knowledge.

#Woodpeckers can be destructive to bat houses. If left alone, they can totally destroy a bat house. You can place pinwheels, shiny balloons or strips of aluminum foil to help deter the woodpeckers. You also want to patch the hole. If the panel can be replaced, that would be a better option. Otherwise, patch the hole with wood putty.
