With the XXXIII Olympiad now underway with Rugby 7s and Football starting ahead of the opening ceremony hopefully the next few weeks provide a platform to unite with the Olympic Spirit. It serves as a reminder of the power of sport to unite, inspire, and leave a positive legacy that transcends borders and generations. In a global sporting calendar increasingly saturated and marred by relentless intent to increase this further maybe it would be prudent to reflect on the power of exclusivity. With events, spanning every corner of the globe and encompassing a multitude of disciplines it provides excitement and opportunities for athletes, fans, and stakeholders alike, it also presents increasing challenges in ensuring each competition retains its significance and impact. IOC's updated Rule 40 of the Olympic Charter set out how participants, including athletes participating in the Olympic Games can engage in, and benefit from, commercial activities around the Games. Like most sponsorship programmes, Olympic marketing programmes are based on granting exclusive rights of association with the Olympic Movement, including through use of Olympic marks and images for advertising purposes. The implication of an association with the Olympic Games through use of athletes is particularly powerful during and immediately before the Olympic Games. The IOC guidance states, 'These limited restrictions help to maintain the distinctiveness of official Olympic marketing programmes and so sustain the funding of global athlete participation and the organisation of the Olympic Games.' These principles apply during the Games Period - 18 July 2024 until 13 August 2024 inclusive. Hopefully the next few weeks will inspire a generation and in the words of Lord Coe at the 2012 games continue to bring together the people of world in 'harmony, friendship & peace to celebrate the best of mankind' but I imagine somewhere, someone will be in breach of rule 40. In the meantime, maybe take 2 minutes to reflect on some iconic moments from 2012! https://lnkd.in/eH7Yt-26

While the industry has been flirting with the concept of #Sustainability for a while now, it's clear that we're going to see a significant increase in interest this year. The environment is an essential part of the global conversation in 2024 in every industry, from politics to sports to entertainment. Sustainability measures are no longer being considered a novelty or a good PR strategy - it's considered essential for the continuation of these international institutions, and #F1 is no exception. How do you think Madrid's involvement will impact sustainability commitments, and what do you think is in store for the future of the sport?

⛹️♀️🎾“SPORT IS YOUR DIAMOND” 💎 It was like yesterday when the great Late Dr Constantine "Dino" Kiritsis said this during our business strategy session (PwC Academy’s MBA program). He was obviously referring to Porter’s “Diamond model”, a framework which describes the competitive advantage that nations or groups possess based on factors available to them. He was a BIG Novak Ðoković fan and pointed out several times that for some reason Serbian athletes do amazingly well in multiple (individual and team) sports, even though we are a small nation, compared to more developed countries, we don’t invest as many resources into sports facilities, do not provide the same support to athletes from a young age in a systematic way, etc. Watching the Olympics made me remember how as a kid, despite a very tough period during the 90s in my home country (even with bombs flying over our heads) our parents could barely keep us away from the basketball and football courts. To be fair, usually, these were not actual courts but improvised goals and hoops. I remember how much it meant to see our national teams win big games and tournaments. Usually, that was the only time we truly felt “big” and “valued” as a nation. Ok, but why does this even matter? 🤔 -During that time, in the late 90s and early 2000s, like myself, two young boys called Nikola Jokić and Novak Ðoković (and many more) were also sitting in front of the TV, watching the games, trying to adjust the antenna to get a clear picture of the broadcast (it wasn’t always easy), dreaming that one day they will become champions… ... the rest of the story you already know. ✊🏼 Whatever you do, wherever you are, when you’re working hard to make it big, remember that it doesn’t end with your medal, trophy, diploma, or any other form of accomplishment. Your success story can inspire entire generations and pave the way for new champions. ❤️ #business #sport #inspiration #mba #gapapp #olympcis2024 #legaltech

What does it take to be a champion? With just 80 days to go before the Olympics opening ceremony in Paris it's easy for us all to focus on that final race, concentrate on who crosses the line first and think about who will be standing on that podium. While that is the goal of each and every athlete competing, only a very small few will ever achieve it. Success on the field takes more than just showing up. It takes support, encouragement, sacrifice and investment (of time, effort and money) from both the athlete themselves and from the mass of volunteers that help them over many years. It also takes a determined and winning mindset, insights into which we can all benefit from understanding, whether you are performing on the world stage, or you are just trying to make it through the day. Great to see the latest from Deloitte, working closely with #TeamGB and #ParalympicsGB, to develop #Mindscape. A digital experience, taking you inside the minds of athletes. https://lnkd.in/eGPv5nyH
