I suppose what was being flagged is the difference between CVC units that are remote from the core business interests of the corporate and those that are almost a blue sky extension of their R&D efforts. You can see why one is easier to handle than the other. Absolutely a given that the quality of CVC due diligence can be off the scale good compared to most VC...especially on IP and ideation. Internal venturing is not new. I managed the IP Strategy for a whole clutch of internal startups over 20 years ago. Great training ground for rising stars in the corporation who nearly always have a golden parachute when things often go tits up.
