Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) take place on the first Thursday of each month, and these sessions aim to encourage collaborative learning and build corps member development. Last week, our Learning Coaches hosted a PLC session where NC Education Corps members explored varied methods of instruction to support individual student needs. This method, better known as "differentiated instruction," meets students where they are so they can better engage and connect with the curriculum, providing optimal student learning outcomes. Examples of modifying the process can include: 👉 Using letter tiles or Lego bricks 👉 Using different texts to support the same skills 👉 Incorporating movement and brain breaks 🧠📚The goal? To understand what motivates, engages, and promotes students working towards proficiency and mastering reading comprehension! Teaching is a fine art organized to help enhance learners' understanding and improve their comprehension skills for the effective application of lessons learned. - However, how you develop content for instruction should be in alignment with learners' development, century, generation, and environment and be of high quality and importance. Furthermore, the art of dissemination and effective management is equally important as it provides the teacher the opportunity to improve the learning environment through adequate control of learners' behavior and classroom order while improving learners' knowledge and skills. - Decades ago, teaching and learning were centered around the "sage on the stage" instructional approach. Teachers were clothed with the responsibility to instruct learners while they followed without questioning the decision. Intermittently, learners in the case of my parents parents would be construed to work on farms, and that in their case would be coin as a form of management and obedience to the instructor's order. - A source of effective teaching and learning is highly dependent on the teachers' ability to properly manage the classroom, behavior, and learners' learning ability. How do you help teachers support student learning? With guidelines based on proven systems. In this case, we’re talking about ELP’s CORE Rubric, which is based on TNTP’s. Our CORE rubric explains our vision of excellent instruction that we want for all students in all classes and at all grade levels. It is designed to help teachers, coaches, and leaders identify key levers to improve student access to grade-appropriate assignments, strong instruction, and deep engagement through enhanced teacher practice. The rubric consists of four areas that are critical to student success: 1: Culture of Learning: Are ALL students engaged in the work of the lesson from start to finish? It helps New Teachers understand if they have the right classroom environment to support learning. 2: Essential Content: Are ALL students working with content aligned to the appropriate standards for their subject and grade? 3: Student Ownership: Are ALL students responsible for thinking in this classroom? Are they being challenged? 4: Demonstration of Learning: Do ALL students demonstrate that they are learning? With this rubric, our Virtual Instructional Coaches have a sequential framework to guide their coaching and ensure their New Teachers know how to support positive student outcomes.
