Registration for Professional Engineers becomes effective in the ACT tomorrow, Wednesday 6th March. The first phase will require engineers providing professional engineering services in the civil and structural areas of engineering (AoE) to be registered. The second phase is planned to open in July 2024 for mechanical engineering. The third phase is planned to open in November 2024 for electrical and fire safety areas of engineering. From 6 March 2025, all professional engineers working in these AoEs will be required to be registered. The primary role of a systems engineer is to de-risk the answers to 'Are we building the right thing?' and 'Are we building the thing right?'. These questions should be addressed intelligently using a risk-based approach. Too many SE's I've encountered get too excited by MBSE (Lets have a modelling team!), using their tools (SysML!) or focus on things that fundamentally do not help the project. An SE works with the other functions (engineering, financial, project etc) to improve the chance of a successful project outcome. It can be a bloody thankless task as we work cross the development stovepipes so are often the ones to find issues with the solutions (which are cheaper fixed when earlier found) and get the blame for finding them!

Supervised Practitioner Level: Contributes to sustaining and improving Defence capabilities, demonstrates creative thinking, and contributes to engineering standards1. 2. Application of Analytical Techniques Supervised Practitioner Level: Contributes to technical aspects of sustaining and improving Defence capabilities. Demonstrates innovative thinking to find solutions to technical challenges. 3. Technical Requirements, Evaluation, and Acceptance: Supervised Practitioner Level: Provides technical support to complex engineering activities across the system or engineering lifecycle.
