Today, we pause to honor and celebrate the pillars of wisdom in our lives: our beloved grandparents. Their tales of yesteryears, their lessons rooted in experiences, and their never-ending love have woven the fabric of our families. From the scent of cookies baking to the echo of laughter during family gatherings, grandparents fill our homes with warmth and memories. Happy National Grandparents Day! Here are some ways to Celebrate today: Pick up the phone! Surprise your grandparents with a much-awaited phone conversation. Take your grandparents on an adventure. Plan a day doing their favorite things - one of which is probably spending time with you. Write a letter to your grandparents. Share with them the things you've been doing. They will read your letter over and over. Learn something from a grandparent. Have you always wanted to know how to make Grandma's pecan pie or catch a whopper from the river? Grandma or Grandpa will probably show you how. You only need to ask. Help them out. Clean out a flower bed. Take out the trash. Mow the lawn. Paint a room. Fix the internet. Run an errand. The list goes on. Take a photo. Sometimes we forget to capture moments with the people we love the most. Take a photo with your grandparent and make sure they get a copy. Speaking of photos, spend some time looking through old photos with your grandparents. Ask them questions about the people in them and record the information. Adopt a grandparent. As surprising as it may seem, there are some of our older generations who have no grandchildren. However, they still have love and wisdom to share.
NATIONAL GRANDPARENTS DAY On the Sunday following Labor Day, National Grandparents Day honors the love only grandparents can provide. #NationalGrandparentsDay Grandparents provide an abundance of wisdom. They also offer guidance and stability. We thank all of the grand parents we care for and our care team members that are grandparents!

This week is an important beginning of idealistic views of who we are as a people. Wednesday is the celebration of the same date in 1865 when the last slaves were freed in Galveston, Texas. The potential idealism that fueled some during that moment as they headed into a new territory of freedom is overwhelming to imagine. Their dreams of freedom went from feeling like a fantasy to a possibility. And in just over two weeks, we will be celebrating the freedom and independence of our country from another power of dominance and oppression. Back then, there were sets of ideals and principles of a free nation that the founding Americans were willing to die for. But there are similarities in both instances. The days we mark as June 19th and July 4th are worth celebrating, but upon reflection, they also generate a reflection of all the action that was required then and is required now. At a team meeting this morning, there was an interesting ice breaker. Would you rather meet your great, great grandparents or your great, great grandchildren. Put into the context of these next two dates of celebration, I am not sure what would be more enlightening; bringing my great, great grandparents to now or my great, great grandchildren. What would they think of where we are, and the progress we have (and haven't made)? While there will be reminders of the divisiveness over the next two weeks, I plan to reflect with my family and three kids on all that has been accomplished. I plan to re-teach the ideals of what can be for all of us when we care about our fellow citizens and believe in the better world ahead of us. Happy Juneteenth Week, everyone.

Shattering the Glass Ceiling of Santa Claus: A Bold Step Toward Redefining Tradition and Inclusivity The phrase “shattering the glass ceiling of Santa Claus” refers to breaking down the long-standing, rigid depiction of Santa Claus as a white, male figure—an image that has been culturally entrenched for generations. It symbolizes a bold reimagining of one of the most iconic figures in Western tradition to make it more inclusive, diverse, and representative of the society we live in today. This concept challenges the notion that Santa Claus must adhere to a single, outdated archetype, suggesting that the spirit of Santa—kindness, generosity, and joy—can be embodied by anyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or background. By doing so, it opens the door for new and diverse portrayals, allowing children and adults alike to see themselves reflected in this beloved symbol of the holiday season. Such a shift not only modernizes the tradition but also sends a powerful message of progress and equality. It asserts that even the most deeply ingrained societal icons can evolve to better reflect contemporary values and celebrate the diversity of humanity. This redefinition could pave the way for a Santa Claus who resonates with more people, spreading a universal message of inclusion, acceptance, and unity during the most festive time of the year. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I'll be preaching at LIFE Church Stratford this Sunday morning at 10:30am. You're welcome to attend if you are in need of a place to worship and be encouraged. https://lnkd.in/gKjGi3qn I'll be preaching a sermon entitled "Good News of Great Joy" from Luke 2:1-20. Summary: Although the purpose and meaning of the Christmas season are often lost beneath the rush of urgent shopping and the push of rampant consumerism, beneath it all is the celebration of a momentous, earth-changing event that took place some 2000 years ago. It was good news of great joy! From our vantage point in history, we recognize the significance of this universally-known event, but on the night that Jesus was born, you wouldn’t have suspected that anything world-changing was happening unless you were one of the chosen few who were put on notice. Author Isaac Williams captures the reality of what was actually happening quite eloquently: “The unfathomable depths of the Divine counsels were moved; the fountains of the great deep were broken up; the healing of the nations was issuing forth; but nothing was seen on the surface of human society, but this slight rippling of the water.” During that first Christmas season, well, there was no Christmas season as we know it today. No months-long marketing campaigns enticing eager shoppers to part with their hard-earned money. No decorations on houses. No workplace banquets or family gatherings. No opening of gifts. No Christmas vacation. It was just another normal night in Bethlehem and nothing much was going on—or so it seemed. But the good news of great joy delivered that night by angels to shepherds was a defining moment in the history of humanity.

The impact of Thanksgiving on Native Americans is a topic steeped in historical significance and complexity, as it brings forth a narrative that contrasts celebration with a painful legacy. For many Indigenous communities, Thanksgiving symbolizes a time of reflection on the historical injustices faced since the arrival of European settlers, including displacement, cultural erasure, and broken treaties. Understanding this multifaceted relationship requires an acknowledgment of diverse perspectives, which is essential in conflict resolution. The Center for Dispute Settlement (CDS) plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue and empathy among communities, promoting a deeper understanding of cultural impacts and shared histories. As we gather around our tables to express gratitude, we are reminded of the values of community and connection that transcend cultural boundaries. By engaging in thoughtful conversations and embracing the mission of CDS to promote harmony and constructive solutions, we can create a more inclusive society. Let us take this opportunity to support initiatives and educational programs that emphasize conflict resolution and cultural awareness, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected in our shared journey toward healing and understanding.
