Benchmark Mineralsin tj. Simon Mooresin puhe ylähuoneen edustajille LME-viikolla: "Everything is changing. The way we use and recycle minerals. The way we trade minerals – both for today’s physical supplies and as hedging mechanisms for tomorrow. The way we buy minerals are changing and who we partner with. Choosing long term stable critical mineral partners will be crucial in navigating this new era of electric vehicles and energy storage which is central to the energy transition. Countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Chile are leading this push into this new era of critical minerals. Developing lasting, long term relationships is the key to ensuring these global pipelines of critical minerals are stable, scalable, and sustainable. Even as we build as much local capacity as possible, the need for a global supply chain will still remain, as the primary base for a new generation of demand." #kriittisetmineraalit #markkinat #johdannaiset #yhteistyökumppanit https://lnkd.in/d45NxKEH

The findings from the IEA act as a reminder of the key role copper is playing in a sustainable future. However, while output isn’t meeting demand, we need to tread lightly. Increasing mining outputs without supporting sustainability initiatives could contribute more emissions than copper can negate. Mining organizations need to approach increasing productivity in tandem with methods to reduce their carbon emissions. For example, electrifying every truck in every mine around the world could remove 198,000 tons of CO2 from our atmosphere every year, and this is only one of many processes that could be electrified in mining.

Interesting report - The Mineral demand for clean energy technologies doubles between today and 2030 in the STEPS and APS and grows by almost three times in the Net Zero Emissions Scenario. In this framework supply risks, geopolitical risks, barriers to respond to supply disruptions, and exposure to environmental, social and governance (ESG) and climate risks raise as the main challenges to put new projects in place and achieve NZE.
