Many families are struggling with high unemployment, and more than 30 million students are enrolled in the free and reduced meal programs. As a result, many parents are unable to provide the basic school supplies their children need to be effective. That's why the Ron Jaworski Foundation, Jaws Youth Playbook, hosts an Annual Back to School Pep Rally, presented by BRADFORD-WHITE WATER HEATERS, INC.. This year, we gave out hundreds of book bags filled with school supplies provided by the DeNicola Family Foundation. Additionally, we distributed shoes, socks, and laptops from AT&T to help the students of the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia Thanks to our sponsors, donors, and volunteers. There is so much power in the community. We can't wait to see the students shine this school year Head to https://lnkd.in/dq5TpfYj to Read More! - - - #BacktoSchool #Giving #JawsGives #JawsGivesBack #RonJaworski #BacktoSchool2024 #Community Cosmo DeNicola Scott Payne Custom Pools LLC NFL Alumni Association Independence Blue Cross The GIANT Company

🚫 Protect Sarasota Children's Future: Reject Project 2025's Radical Education Policies! 🚫 Project 2025's radical education policies threaten our children's future! Their plan to dismantle the Department of Education, slash $18 billion in funding for low-income students, and eliminate crucial programs like free school meals and Head Start is cruel and unacceptable. We cannot let #MAGA radicals like - Richard Corcoran, - Bridget Ziegler - Karen Rose - Greg Wood, and - Thomas Andrew Babicz continue to harm Sarasota County Schools and New College of Florida students. These actions would strip our schools of vital resources, undermine #civilrights, and treat education as a privilege rather than a right. Let's unite to safeguard our education system's integrity and ensure every #child receives the quality education they deserve. 📜 Project 2025's Proposals: ❌ Dismantling the Department of Education ❌ Cutting $18 billion in funding for low-income students ❌ Eliminating free school meals and Head Start Save our schools! EVERY DAY... The scholar-athletes of Oakland Genesis wake up and hit the ground running (that is, after a well-deserved snooze or two on the alarm clock). The youth in our programs have a lot going on—school, soccer, family responsibilities, work commitments, extracurricular activities, and more—and it’s our mission to support them as they try to find their place in this chaotic and vibrant city we call home. We do this by providing individualized programming tailored to each of our participants’ needs, from college essay support and academic counseling to nutritional education and competitive soccer coaching. The best part? All our programs are 100% free for Oakland youth and their families. But we don't want to just talk about our work; we want you to see it in action. In the video below, you'll get a glimpse into a day in the life of two of our exceptional scholar-athletes, Yaretzi and Askari. You’ll see their neighborhoods and schools. You’ll meet their families and their mentors. And most importantly, you'll hear from both of them about how Oakland Genesis has played a vital role in shaping them into confident students, footballers, and people. We are so proud of the achievements of Yaretzi, Askari, and the 2000+ youth we've supported since our inception in 2019. And yet, there are scores of talented youth in Oakland still in need of programming—and with your support, we can try to reach them. As part of our Equal Play Campaign, which is dedicated to breaking down barriers preventing under-resourced youth from accessing high-level soccer, we have set an ambitious goal to raise $300,000 by the end of 2023. We are still $94,000 away from reaching our target. Can you help us get there? Whether you can donate yourself or share with someone who supports our mission of empowering Oakland youth, every contribution matters! Access to resources offered at Catholic Charities Northside Child Development Center and at V3 Sports is particularly important in North Minneapolis, because young adults under 18 make up roughly 40% of the population in the Near North neighborhood. Our children's futures will rely on the work we do today — Near North's unemployment rate is twice that of the rest of the city, and many organizations are working to promote economic stability, job opportunities, and education equity. As a husband, father and professional I share many of the same aspirations as many of you. A future that’s bright and full of good health, prosperity and promise for the generations that follow. As many of our youth become of age to vote, most have little understanding as to how public policy is woven into every aspect of life in America. Like me, you have likely noticed a lack of policy education in schools across the US. There is an immediate need to provide America's youth with a quality civics education, yet most students never learn about the critical systems and policies that shape their lives. To build a better future our team has been hard at work to join forces as a community - to be intentional in our effort to ensure young people have access to the tools they need to understand and engage with policy. In addition to supporting policymakers and engaging the general public on policy matters, our mission is also focused on providing civic education to high school students across America. Our Policy Education Program is active in 15 schools spanning 12 states, in both well-funded rural settings as well as under-served urban districts. Among other fundraising initiatives, we’ve also launched a Giving Tuesday campaign to continue the expansion of the program to 50 schools by Summer 2024. Several members of our community have agreed to match the first $10,000 raised. So, every $35 means $70, every $100 means $200…and so on. This Giving Tuesday, please consider donating to help educate and inform our future generations of voters. We have a big hill to climb and can’t do it without you. I hope you’ll follow us on social media, sign up for our content and support our efforts to make a real difference. Easy to digest, short form information and data without any political spin or bias directly in your inbox. Know the Source - You Decide. #givingtuesday #policyvspolitics #pvp https://lnkd.in/dmv7Kg5e

If you're unfamiliar with the Community Schools Model, which puts communities at the heart of education and schooling, or the work of Communities In Schools, the organization I work with which has been a beacon, a model and an active advocate of these ideals for decades, then start with this article. Now is the best time to educate ourselves about the benefits of this educational model so that we can advocate for policies and budgets that support this model of schooling during the current GA session and beyond! Reach out if you have questions! I love to share about the work we do! https://lnkd.in/eW8ukiJt
"A highly successful organization offering integrated student services is Communities In Schools. CIS is a national nonprofit that is one piece of the larger Community Schools puzzle. While many nonprofit providers offer valuable programming outside the traditional school day, significant and life changing support also occurs during the school day through organizations like CIS." Thank you Forbes for highlighting the work the work of CIS and sharing the perspectives of Communities In Schools of Richmond president and CEO Harold Fitrer and CIS Founder and CIS-VA vice chair Bill Milliken. Don't forget to bring your school supplies to the July 18th meeting. Education is the foundation of a brighter future, and every student deserves the tools to succeed. That's why we're partnering with Classroom Central, an organization dedicated to supporting teachers and providing essential school supplies to students in need. Consider this insight from Ms. Nicole Matthews, a 3rd-grade teacher in Charlotte: "There are always unseen challenges for students. As teachers, we strive to understand and address the struggles they face outside the classroom. When kids live in poverty and high-stress environments, focusing on learning to read or understand fractions becomes incrementally more difficult, not to mention the stress of worrying if they can get the necessary books and supplies, they need to complete their homework and lessons. With the help of Classroom Central, I can alleviate at least one of their stressors, making it easier for them to feel capable and successful while they're at school." Ms. Matthew's class makes up only a fraction of the eligible students supported by Classroom Central. Your #9SchoolTools donations provide the tools that all eligible teachers need to support their students. #commumitysupport #ISC2 #CharlotteMetroISC2 #Charlotte

So, today my #BlackHistoryMonth focus is going to be on the Black Panther Party. This morning my "shower thoughts" turned to the recent and saddening new of 15 states decisions to reject the summer meals program funding. It's a gap that will mean more children go hungry, more children have less access to nutritious foods, and more families have stress in their lives. In seeing this, it feels like we have eroded one of the fundamental principles of a healthy democracy, which, in my mind, is to ensure that no child or person goes to bed on an empty stomach. At the heart of this, I believe that there are two things that feel important to reflect upon: That there is a set of decisionmakers who have by rejecting this funding, disregarded the shared stake that we all have in children and families. A hungry child in any community is gut-wrenching and unacceptable. Secondly, I believe that this is also designed for distraction. Out of necessity, there are hundreds of non-profit groups rallying around to fill the gap left by summer meals programs. Sadly, when state governments won't take these ready made funding streams, nonprofits have to step in and it takes away from their efforts to invest in long-term and permanent social change like fully available universal school meals or an expanded child tax credit. This is a nod to our history and here's where the Black Panthers come in. There have been other times in our history when the implicit message was that living in healthy conditions were only for some people -- some kids, some families, some caregivers. And in those times it's the Black Panthers who stepped in. They started the first social meal programs and breakfasts for hungry children; they said that everyone deserved dignity. They stepped in to fulfill a function even though it is our collective responsibility to hold each other in care. Check out my comment for their very unradical 10-point program that just said we all should live with freedom, safety, security, and enough -- a job that's good enough, nourishing and healthy food, and what we need to take care of family and community. https://lnkd.in/e5G3UfCm #Day5 #TellHistory #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackPanthers
