🌱 The FutureFoodS partnership for Sustainable Food Systems has been launched! 🤝 Involving 86 partners from 29 countries, it aims to accelerate the development of sustainable food systems trough the mobilization of local and national governments, civil society organisations, universities and other research organizations🔝 ♻ The partnership will contribute to the EU’s Green Deal objective “Fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food systems, from primary production to consumption”. It will strive to accelerate the change towards safe, sustainable, healthy and resilient food systems while making them trusted and accessible and respecting our planetary boundaries. 📅 Planned actions include open calls for research and innovation, with the first call launching before the end of 2024. This partnership will also develop Living Labs, a new EU food system observatory and also organise several knowledge sharing events. Recognizing the coffee sector's vital role for Costa Rica’s economy and the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability, UNDP and partners are following a community based approach to prioritize the production of deforestation-free coffee. Conviction and acceptance are best gained through functioning and successful practical examples. There are many so-called "lighthouse projects", but most of them are only known to a small, interested community. One example worth mentioning is the EU project #CEFoodCycle, which was launched to network actors in the food industry and support them on the way to the #circulareconomy. The stakeholders from the five partner countries (Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and France) benefit from know-how transfer, networking and the use of a digital, intelligent decision support system based on life cycle indicators. The activities are aimed at parties that are directly and indirectly involved in the food cycle, such as production companies, retailers, hotels and energy suppliers. The project will enable the various stakeholders to think about resource and CO2 savings and to strengthen the competitiveness of sustainable circular economy in the Alps. Allowing new thinking opens up completely new perspectives and opportunities! It takes courage, commitment and a strong will to implement.
