How Can Tech-Enabled Virtual Wards Improve Patient Care and Efficiency? This case study provides a comprehensive comparison between traditional and tech-enabled virtual wards, offering valuable insights into improving patient care and service efficiency. ✨ Key Findings: ⏲️ - Shorter Length of Stay: Tech-enabled virtual wards achieved an average length of stay of just 10 days, compared to 19 days in traditional wards. 📈 - Optimised Staffing Efficiency: Tech-enabled virtual wards supported a higher patient-to-nurse ratio, with 1 nurse per 10 patients, compared to 1 nurse per 8.3 patients in traditional wards. 💰 - Positive Economic Impact: For every £1 invested in the tech-enabled ward, a return of £3.10 was realised. This study highlights the potential of virtual wards to enhance healthcare delivery by reducing patient time in care and optimising staff resources. 🔗 Dive into the case study to explore how tech-enabled virtual wards can transform healthcare services: https://lnkd.in/e_x-QQys #HealthcareInnovation #VirtualWards #PatientOutcomes #CaseStudy #HealthcareEfficiency

Virtual Wards – South East Region Evaluation Report A virtual ward evaluation report by PPL provides some interesting observations on the use of virtual wards in the South East of England. (Virtual wards are an ICS-endorsed initiative that allows patients to receive care at ‘home’, rather than hospital – part of the ‘get them out of and away from hospitals’ policy adopted across the NHS.) The study, conducted over two years, analysed over 22,000 admissions across 29 South East virtual wards (49% of the South East’s overall VW capacity). It focuses on the impact and cost-effectiveness of admission-avoidance pathways, and highlights benefits such as the positive impact on avoided non-elective admissions and a strong return on investment, whilst also identifying areas for improvement (e.g., the reduction of health inequalities). At PM Healthcare we recognise the importance of the virtual ward model – all ICBs have invested in the initiative, to agreed standards and definitions. The PPL study provides a timely and useful evaluation of this ‘Mae West’ policy, believed to deliver not just an alternative to hospital admission, but also providing a raft of other benefits to patients. We believe it will provide a useful benchmark for other ICSs looking to evaluate and expand on this important cross-sector area of care. #virtualwards #nhs #ics #icb #ppl #nhsengland Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/e_p8SN6n

On my way back home from the The Ohio Hospital Association Annual Conference. My flight's delayed (Thanks Delta Air Lines) so now I have more time to wax poetic about the conference. For those that are newer to my network, I've spent most of my career in clinical hospital and health system leadership until I pivoted to PointClickCare as the pandemic was winding down. Let me tell you, after being entrenched in the pandemic, it is so refreshing to talk about high reliability organizations, social media policies, and effective leadership once again. There's a lot happening in Ohio and there is an intentionality in how the state and individual health systems are tackling really complex healthcare problems. How do we actually calculate the cost of a readmission? How do we assign patients to hospitalists in a more geographic way to reduce inefficiencies and decrease length of stay? A lot of best practices were shared. At a more macro level, hospitals and state agencies are coming together to tackle complex public health issues like Maternal Health. At the Maternal Health summit, I learned what the Ohio Department of Children and Youth are doing to support prenatal and postpartum particularly with their visiting nurse program. I learned that about the Ohio Perinatal Collaborative. And, I learned that a key barrier in these initiatives are disparate stratified data and lack of knowledge of mothers accessing maternal health services in the emergency departments. The good news is that the state is funding these great initiatives. I love learning about these bottom-up and top-down approaches to improving the health of the most vulnerable populations. I think both are so needed, and I am excited to support key stakeholders in Ohio to improve healthcare access and deliver across the state!
We're excited to announce our official partnership with The Ohio Hospital Association to serve the needs and priorities of Ohio’s healthcare sector and communities. We've been serving the state's senior care population for years, becoming a trusted technology partner of skilled nursing facilities (#SNFs), and are proud to empower them with improved data sharing across the care collaboration network. For more details about the partnership, check out our press release here: https://bit.ly/3VvQPKE Or stop by Booth #47 at the 109th Ohio Hospital Association Annual Meeting and Education Summit from June 10-12, where we’ll be participating and exhibiting.

So many surgical team leaders are frustrated with the lack of efficiency they witness in their community hospitals. Inconsistent surgical scheduling is the silent killer of community hospital efficiency. Here's how it wreaks havoc: → Chaotic OR environments → Frustrated surgical staff → Delayed patient care → Wasted hospital resources → Compromised hospital profitability The antidote? Consistency. By establishing clear block scheduling guidelines and holding surgeons accountable, community hospitals can create the predictable, efficient surgical departments their patients and staff deserve. Don't let inconsistency derail your surgical success. It's time to take control of the schedule. #SurgicalScheduling #CommunityHospitals #Efficiency #PatientCare

💡 Did you know that hospital prices go up after hospitals merge and competition decreases? Hospital facility fees are extra charges that hospitals add on top of the costs for specific services provided by doctors and other medical professionals. This happens when services are delivered in settings that are now called hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) because a hospital acquires outpatient clinics. With more consolidated provider markets and less independent practices, it’s harder for patients to not only access their care, let alone afford their care. In our new facility fee report titled “Behind the Bill: The Hidden Injustice of Hospital Facility Fees,” we seek to answer the following: 🏥 What are facility fees and why do hospitals charge them? 💸 How does provider consolidation expose more consumers to facility fees? 🚫 Why are facility fees an example of inequitable pricing practices? Take a look ⤵️
