💥 SUCCESS STORY | Zabala Innovation Europe, which has been collaborating with the Gimeno Group for more than a decade, has accompanied the LIFE Rewaincer project to success 💦 🎯 The central objective of the LIFE Rewaincer project, whose duration extends from June 2023 to December 2026, is the implementation of a new model for the application and use of reclaimed water in industrial environments, specifically in the ceramics sector. This is carried out by regenerating urban wastewater through membrane technologies, thus providing a sustainable alternative to freshwater use and reducing water stress in the Castellón region. It was a pleasure representing our startup URBNC3 at this year's Climate Hub Davos, which took place in the context of the WEF 2024 Open Forums. We participated in an exhibition organized by our strategic partner Faircustomer.ch and GreenUp Switzerland, which showcased promising upcycling products, such as AMUNEMI bags made from used sofa leather and brands working with innovative materials, such as Ananda, creating modular bags made from pineapple leather. Engaging in conversations at the World Economic Forum not only allowed us to foster the discussion on sustainability but also to critically examine our own concepts. I learned more about transparent supply chains in the fashion industry from Patrick Roth and attended an inspiring panel held by Assi Grunder from New Roots AG, and, most importantly, got to taste their vegan fondue and raclette 🧀 . Three key takeaways that drew my attention: 🎓 Knowledge about materials in fashion is still limited, especially among the international audience. Although leather alternatives with limited plastic content are not yet mature, they represent significant potential and need to be explained more thoroughly. 🍃 Despite a substantial portion of emissions being rooted in consumption, climate protection strongly focuses on renewable energies and energy efficiency. In my view, consumption deserves more attention from politics, investors, and public funding. I am all the more thankful for the possibility to showcase emission-light consumer products at the ClimateHub. 📣 The Climate Hub Davos proved to be a valuable space for fostering innovation, sustainability, and critical reflections on the economy but also the WEF itself. These discussions play a crucial role in fostering public discourse and should gain importance in the future. It is a source of pride to see how the work we have done with a lot of effort is beginning to be recognised. It is difficult to get a European project approved, in Horizon Europe calls it is not enough to be one of the best, you have to be excellent. However, with the #ECIV-#EuropeanCircularInnovationValleys project we have already managed to establish an idea to improve and promote circularity in the regions and in the form of production and consumption. Great partners: Navarra, Bulgaria, Scotland Helsinki, Lithuania, North Holland, North Middle Sweden, Normandy and Wallonia. Ans a great idea, connecting value chains at regional and international level, sharing ideas and exporting knowledge to help promote circular solutions. The circular economy begins to dance with these valleys of innovation.

Walking the talk when it comes to #sustainability!   Yesterday, our colleague, Hagen Wegner, had the opportunity to participate in the first networking event for companies from the Bonn region targeting the reduction of #CO2 footprints, closing circular loops and strengthening regional companies. A big thank you to WFG Bornheim, bio innovation park Rheinland e.V., and Nachhaltigkeits-Hub Region Bonn for the organization of this interesting event and to Landgard eG for hosting us at the impressive "Versteigerungshalle" location. It was encouraging to see different industries making strides in actively reducing their footprints, including using innovative product designs and exploring new business models. #Innovation is key!   Overall, the event underscored the importance of the triple bottom line: People, Planet, Profit. However, finding the right balance is critical. Sustainability + Innovation = Sustainovation 🍃💡 A word to describe the best of both worlds. But what does Sustainovation mean for Eckes-Granini?   Our colleague Dr. Michael Kempf, Director Research and Development at Eckes-Granini, answered this question at the Innovation Day hosted and organised by our partner AGRANA Group. Interesting key notes and discussions all about “LIVING SUSTAINOVATION” showed how far our industry has come in moving towards a more sustainable future with innovation as a driver. This topic is dear to our heart because sustainability and innovation go hand in hand at Eckes-Granini. We know that holistic sustainability is not possible without innovation.
