  In just two weeks, the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) will bring together public authorities, private companies, NGOs, and consumers to promote initiatives accelerating decarbonization through green technologies and solutions. This year’s theme, ‘Net-zero competitiveness driving EU energy transition,’ focuses on delivering Europe’s decarbonization through green technologies and solutions towards a fair and just transition for people and competitive businesses. Aramis CCS will be participating in a panel discussion (June 12th) on overcoming barriers to CCS deployment. The session will delve into the challenges to deploy the necessary infrastructure for the achievement of the 2040 climate target, emphasizing regulatory policy and public awareness. #eusew2024 #ccs #decarbonisation

Many of us in the Regen camp have been closely engaged with the development of the premise and process of Regional Energy Strategic Plans (and the regional bodies that will be set up to produce them). We have submitted not one, but two responses to Ofgem's consultation around the policy framework for RESPs - we think its that important! Within this are a number of specific recommendations we think are vital to getting the aims, methods and coordination of RESPs right, but we also recognise much of the detailed design is still to come... Three key takeaways from our responses are: 🔎 RESPs should prioritise bottom-up evidence over top-down disaggregation of national pathways. 🔎 NESO should build on and add value to, rather than duplicate, existing engagement and network forecasting processes that have been extensively developed. 🔎 A key function of RESPs should be to ensure that the energy system is net zero-ready. We are very excited to see that 15 EU member states recognise the immense potential of district energy systems to decarbonise heating and cooling. They have jointly called for a robust EU framework to unlock the significant potential of renewable energy sources, particularly district systems.   Combining local renewable energy sources with existing, modernised, and/or new district heating systems not only holds the potential to substantially contribute to decarbonising heating and cooling, but it will also strengthen the EU’s independence and security of supply, the stability of the energy system, and consumer prices.   Thank you Latvia, Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Greece, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain for pushing forward to decarbonise heat! An open letter to Ed Miliband, newly appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. While we commend the new government's stated ambition to turn the UK into a clean energy superpower, we believe that more attention needs to be placed on how to decarbonise the UK's unavoidable gas demand. The UK currently consumes three times more gas than electricity by energy content. We believe biomethane produced via AD to be a proven and scalable solution to gas decarbonisation – while also presenting a key opportunity to deliver permanent GHG removals. We, therefore, encourage Labour to support the UK’s growing biomethane BECCS industry by:   - Incorporating biomethane into Labour’s clean energy strategy - Enabling biomethane plants to access the UK’s carbon storage facilities UK government
