Great panel discussion at the #Joburg_Indaba# reflecting on the past 20 years of the MPRDA. Here are some highlights: The MPRDA significantly transformed the South African mining landscape: it introduced the concept of state custodianship; unlocked prospecting and facilitated the inclusion of women on board and management levels of mining companies. Some shortcomings include the lack of implementation of the act; limited capacity within the DMRE and gaps in the law. In this regard, the DMRE is in the process of reviewing the MPRDA to fix those gaps. For the next 20 years - we need to unlock exploration; shorten the timeline for processing applications and create a competitive, stable and predictable framework.

How can mines do things differently? ⚒️ As the mining sector grapples with balancing increased output, reduced emissions and rising energy costs, MaxMine Interim CEO Tom Cawley highlights the crucial need for the industry to innovate as we work towards a zero-emissions future! 💡 In an article for AMTIL Magazine, Tom discusses how MaxMine collaborated with NRW Civil & Mining to significantly cut carbon emissions at the Karara Iron Ore project. By implementing intelligent technology solutions that leverage data-driven insights, the focus was on optimising simple operator behaviours. #Decarbonisation will have a very uneven #economic impact across #Italy’s provinces. Using our Delayed #NetZero Transition #scenario to illustrate, we find that major disruptions will occur in pockets of both #north and #southern Italy. Provinces in the #industrial belt, east of #Genova, will face challenges, as will the mining hub #Potenza. Interestingly, industrial hubs in the northeastern provinces around #Milan will be more resilient to #transition #risks, owing to their reliance on less #carbon intensive subsectors of #manufacturing.
