Doing the BEST we can to get this HOUSING BUILT - Many times, by Wednesday, we are EXHAUSTED! Making sure that we are Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (should have been done since 1968, but wasn't) making sure that REDLINING does NOT continue (I work diligently at this!) and housing that is being built is NOT placed in POVERTY concentrated areas OR areas of Environmental hazards - AND we make SURE that each of the 539 cities/towns and 58 counties within the STATE OF CALIFORNIA integrate AFFORDABLE housing and HOUSING MADE MORE AFFORDABLE (YES, those are TWO (2) SEPARATE THINGS) into their HOUSING DNA- . The goal of the State is to build 2,000,000 NEW HOUSING UNITS by 2030 which means....WE'RE WORKING HARD, ALL OF US HERE AT HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (STATE OF CALIFORNIA). Since 2021, almost 200,000 new housing units have been built with many more to come! The REST is UP TO YOU and YOUR INDIVIDUAL CITY OR TOWN.... YOU MUST HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE! You can check what your City/Town is building by going to https://www.hcd.ca.gov - go to Housing Elements, pull up your city/town and it will tell you all you need to know. This is PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. :)

Why is there such a pent up demand in our community for affordable housing? It’s relatively to simple explain, but very hard to create the solution. The basic answer is the success that Greenville has seen in becoming a place that people want to live has created a lot of opportunities. Growth is everywhere. But when things get added, something has to be removed. And that has caused the problems with affordable housing. It can’t be built fast enough to meet demands. That’s where we and other proponents of affordable housing are advocating for more solutions and more unique ideas. Yesterday we hosted our CIE Community Quarterly convening and learned a lot about the state of housing in Colorado along with the historical inequities and disparities that still impede us today. Thank you, Peter LiFari, for a wonderful presentation. Your insights and advocacy of affordable housing being something each citizen should enjoy. A couple key statements from Peter that really resonated were... 💡 “The future of housing is in the sky.“ (Based on density, environmental, social and community needs.) 💡 "Do we want MORE homeless or MORE housing?” 🤔   Housing values were a key takeaway from our discussion. Below are some things to consider: 🏠 Housing stability is national security 🏠 Housing is Civil Rights 🏠 Everyone needs a home to thrive 🏠 Housing abundance drives housing affordability 🏠 Housing is a continuum 🏠 Homebuilders are not the enemy 🏠 Filtering is real 🏠 The Market will not produce homes < 60%AMI without subsidy 🏠 Inclusionary Zoning alone will not solve your affordability challenges 🏠 Rent Control is a False Idol #inclusiveeconomy

It’s important we continue to acknowledge the complexity of solving housing inequities and the many solutions it could take to resolve them. Monday night's community conversation on affordable housing, hosted by People United and The Gathering Spot, was nothing short of inspiring. 🙏🏽 As I listened to the panelists and engaged with fellow attendees, it became clear that our collective goal is to build a city that works for everyone, a city of opportunity for all. The event shed light on the remarkable progress Atlanta has made in addressing affordable housing. Over the past two years, we've delivered an impressive 5,000 units, with another 4,000 underway. 📈 This achievement is not just significant for Atlanta; it sets a powerful example for cities across America. But affordable housing is more than just numbers. 🔢 It's about creating vibrant, thriving communities where every resident has the opportunity to succeed. As Terri Lee, CEO of Atlanta Housing, aptly put it, "If we keep talking about units and don't seize the opportunity to use housing as a catalyst for economic freedom, then we've missed the mark." 💬 The conversation delved into the heart of the issue, highlighting the importance of ensuring that no one pays more than 30% of their income towards housing and transportation. This is especially critical for families earning less than $30,000 a year, who often struggle to find affordable options in today's market. Affordable housing isn't just a policy; it's a fundamental human right. It's about providing stability and security to those who need it most. And as we work towards this goal, I want to commend Mayor Andre Dickens for his unwavering commitment and leadership.
