We’re making progress in the Kansas City metro! Construction is underway on the Metropolitan Avenue bridge over I-635 in Kansas City, Kansas. Working with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), JEO conducted a concept study of the existing traffic patterns and then designed the new bridge based on the study’s findings. The finished bridge will feature a pedestrian path, creating a much-needed crossing to connect the community. #Bridge #Construction #Connections #Community

Partner at Cuddy & Feder LLP - advising as to land use, real estate, energy, and economic development.
So many points in this study to review and consider. For now, I note that: Local zoning and land use regulation continue to be significant impediments to TOD. Fewer than half of commuter rail stations outside New York City with the infrastructure to support TOD have the zoning needed to facilitate it.

A massive project to rebuild and widen Interstate 77 between uptown and South Carolina is becoming even more expensive — perhaps making it more likely the state will turn to a private developer to build and manage it. The NCDOT has long planned to add two state-operated express toll lanes in each direction from uptown Charlotte to the state line. But because the highway runs through the heart of the state’s largest city, widening it from six lanes to 10 will be costly. Every bridge over I-77 would likely have to be torn down and rebuilt. And almost the entire 12 miles of the highway would need to be redone because of the topography; steep drop-offs next to much of the highway would require adjust the elevation of the adjacent land. Find out if and how this $3 billion project - likely the state’s most expensive highway project ever - might realistically get done. 📷 Photo from Google Street View Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e89Rc9Kc #thecharlotteledger #transittime #cltledger #WFAEWFAE

Asphalt is one of the most expensive things most cities and private communities own. So, conducting proper due diligence is critical when it comes to maintaining that asset. Joe Regan and his community were incredibly thorough before deciding on a course of action to manage their pavement assets. Hear how Joe and his community evaluated their options and ultimately saved thousands of dollars while extending the life of their roads. https://hubs.ly/Q02sLfVR0 #pavementpreservation #assetmanagement #roads hashtag#streets #publicworks #infrastructure #engineering #engineer #construction #assetmanagement #asphaltmaintenance #oxidation

*Attention Virginia Builders* *Virginia Senate Bill 195* The Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development is in the midst of forming a stakeholder advisory group which will include fire code officials, licensed building professionals and other building safety experts to evaluate and recommend revisions to the Uniform Statewide Building Code to permit Group R-2 occupancies to be served by a single exit, provided that the building has not more than six stories above grade plane. The bill requires the stakeholder advisory group to submit its findings and recommendations to the Board and to the Chairmen of the House Committee on General Laws and the Senate Committee on General Laws and Technology no later than December 1, 2024. "I strongly encourage the Hampton Road building construction community to get involved and speak up on behalf of the building safety professionals that have worked tirelessly for many years to provide us with the most comprehensive building and fire safety codes and regulations. The importance of having a second means of egress in R-2 occupancies is so important to have in the event of a fire to give occupants an alternative means of egress. The group lobbying for this change stated that the second means of egress will be when the fire department shows up with a ladder truck. For those individuals with limited mobility that could prove fatal. The group lobbying for this change has also failed to think through the importance of having a second means of egress in the unfortunate event of an active shooter situation to give building occupants a second means of exit. Again, I strongly encourage the Hampton Road Building Construction industry to get involved, look at the facts and speak up to keep Virginia Multi-Family housing as safe as possible. If you're interested in participating in the stakeholder's advisory group, I'd encourage you to reach out to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.” -Eric S. The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) has been made aware of efforts in some local and state jurisdictions where consideration is allowing a single means of egress in multifamily buildings that are currently required by code to be provided with more than one means of egress. NASFM is very concerned that allowing multifamily structures to be constructed with certain exemptions or modifications contrary to decades of research and investigation validating the need for multiple exits will jeopardize safety. More concerning is legislating and reducing known critical life saving features by circumventing the national code development consensus process. The national code development process provides for equal, non-biased dialogue between all stakeholders to find consensus. Bypassing the code development process jeopardizes life safety of the public, building occupants and first responders.
