In the process of developing Waterfront in Gdynia we have done lots of research into the history of the site. The coastline of Gdynia has been repeatedly changed and shaped by human activity. Originally, the city was a small fishing settlement that did not have a natural port or access to the deep sea. It was not until the interwar period, when Gdynia was chosen as the seat of the Polish seaport, that artificial breakwaters, quays, docks and canals began to be built, which allowed for the expansion and modernization of the port. In this way, Gdynia became one of the largest and most important port cities in Europe. At the same time, it was growing and needed more land for development. Therefore, some of the sand and mud excavated from the seabed was used to fill parts of the bay and create new polders and islands. In total, the coastline of Gdynia was extended by over 20 km, and the area of the city almost doubled. In a few days, we will complete work on our new investment - Waterfront, which is also part of the process of shaping the coast and enriching the city's infrastructure. As the matter of fact the green belt of vegetation running across the development, falls almost in the same place where the sand of the former beach met with water. The design, produced by the JEMS Architekci will provide comfortable places to live and work, and it will also provide access to the world of art and year-round events. The squares and plazas open to everyone will be an incentive to relax with family, take walks and meet friends. 🏨 An underground hotel in an abandoned quarry - Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental Hotel 🏨 Also known as the Songjiang Quarry Hotel, this five-star hotel is located 30 miles (48 km) outside downtown Shanghai, China. It is run by the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and designed by British Architect Martin Jochman. 🏨 The design takes advantage of the surrounding cliffs and waterfalls, with underwater rooms and observation decks overhanging the quarry walls. Activities include sports on the lake like sailing, rock climbing, bungee jumping, and more! 🏨 The hotel took 12 years and more than more than 5,000 architects, engineers, designers, and workers to build, and opened in 2018. 🏨 Not only does the hotel prevent further ecological damage by utilizing an unoccupied mine, it’s also energy efficient. The structure of the quarry forms a microclimate and thermal inertia that keeps cool in the summer and warm in the winter. A great example of mine reclamation and passive sustainability! ✔ For more information on what I do: https://lnkd.in/gw6bKKm ✔ Click on the hashtag to follow me for mining news and educational content: #MiningNewsByHooman 🔗 All rights and credits reserved to the respective owner/s - source: @Rafa Goes Around! on YouTube #mining #miningindustry #china #renewables

Why this bridge is circular? The Laguna Garzón Bridge is a unique circular bridge located in Uruguay. It was designed by the internationally renowned architect Rafael Viñoly Architects and was completed in 2015. What makes the Laguna Garzón Bridge unique is its innovative circular design. Instead of a traditional straight bridge, the unusual circular shape slow traffic and allows drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to appreciate panoramic views to one of the most beautiful and pristine coastal landscapes in Uruguay. The bridge has a diameter of approximately 300 meters and is supported by a series of slender concrete pillars. The construction of the Laguna Garzón Bridge aimed to improve transportation and connectivity in the region, facilitating access to tourist destinations and enhancing economic development. It has become an iconic landmark in #Uruguay, representing the country's commitment to innovative and sustainable infrastructure. What do you think?
