At Johnson & Johnson, we believe closing the gap between community and care can transform health outcomes for all. We’ve partnered with Apunipima Cape York Health Council and Heart of Australia to co-design and deliver a cardiovascular disease screening clinic for remote communities. First Nations adults with no diagnosed cardiovascular disease are first screened, and those with a medium or high risk of CVD are provided full testing on board Heart of Australia’s mobile clinic. Not only are we providing early intervention and treatment for people in remote communities, we’re working to establish the burden of disease to support future health delivery. Volunteers from J&J utilised their 4 days of #volunteer leave to contribute in both clinical and non-clinical roles. Nurses, doctors and other clinical staff from J&J supported Apunipima’s Aboriginal Health Workers in screening and point-of-care testing, and the Heart of Australia team on board the truck as they performed ECGs, echocardiograms and CTs. For non-clinical volunteers, yarning with community members and serving up healthy BBQ lunches meant that the team were able to discuss healthy lifestyle factors, and help educate on the screening and testing process to remove some of the barriers community members faced in attending the clinic. For local Apunipima Health Workers, success was measured through diagnosis of CVD in even one member of community, reducing the risk of an emergency presentation. Several community members were diagnosed with significant risk, and are now being followed up with appropriate treatment plans – and while we’ve got more work to do in this community, we believe we’re creating a meaningful and impactful program. Our Head of Community Impact Deborah Guion recently spoke to Health Industry Hub about the work we're doing across Australia and New Zealand to address societal health challenges.

A key element of J&J’s commitment to #ESG initiatives is protecting our #environment. During 2023, Johnson & Johnson completed the switch to 100% green retail electricity supply to all commercial office and operations facilities in Australia and New Zealand, forming part of our 41% global reduction of Scope 1 + Scope 2 GHG emissions (since 2016). We worked with our logistics partner DHL to reduce carbon emissions across Australia and New Zealand by 84.5 tonnes, a significant reduction supported by the transition in ground transport services to Smartways Logistics, the first carbon-neutral healthcare logistics provider in Australia New Zealand. We also installed electric vehicle charging stations at the Sydney head office carpark for our green-living team members! Yesterday afternoon 20 teams from nine different organisations participated in the Macquarie Park Business Community Partnership’s hotly-contested soccer round-robin: the United Way Community Cup 2024. J&J had four teams comprising staff from Johnson & Johnson MedTech ANZ and Janssen Australia and New Zealand and we had an awesome time with some special appearances from Sydney FC players. J&J is committed to supporting the community in which we live and work. Our 2023 Impact Report details the many ways we do this through programs funded by our Australia New Zealand business.   - $5 million direct investment for 15 community organisations, targeting health equity initiatives for First Nations Australians, Māori and low-socio economic communities (2021-2023) - $956k in product for surgical missions in 2023, supporting the volunteer doctors, nurses and other healthworkers who performed surgeries in cardiac, spinal, gynaecology, reconstructive plastics, and general surgery, in 13 low socio-economic nations - 21 Nursing Scholarships in 2023, seven of which were awarded to First Nations and regional/remote candidates - 22 Medical Scholarships in total: three surgical scholarships each year for First Nations and Māori students, and one dermatology scholarship each year for a First Nations candidate - Patient Assistance through early access to Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine products that are not yet listed on Pharmaceutical Benefits Schemes in Australia and New Zealand.   Read the full report here: https://adobe.ly/3V1r7Os.
