Working in this industry means I continually discover mind-blowing insights… Did you know that geothermal energy is virtually infinite, extremely low in greenhouse gas emissions, and has a relatively small surface footprint?! Mildly put, its potential to positively impact the planet—and the energy industry itself—is staggering. Of course, there are hurdles in scalability and environmental safety if we wish to harness geothermal’s potential (and we do). But they’re not totally unprecedented. In fact, this massive opportunity is 100% attainable with deep investment in new tech and strategic cooperation across our industry globally. So, what is the role of “enhanced” geothermal systems (EGS) in all of this? Benoit Deville, SLB's Tech Development Director for Geothermal, does a good job of explaining it: https://lnkd.in/e8sCKuEY

Geothermal energy is bringing the heat to the low-carbon energy mix. As the U.S. looks to reduce its carbon footprint, the viability of geothermal energy appears to be attracting attention from members of Congress who have sought to ease certain restrictions on geothermal development under the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA. In this article for Law360, Steven Lorch, Irina Tsveklova and Humzah Yazdani discuss how the recent bipartisan action, together with government incentives, technological advancements and support from a diverse set of energy industry participants — from Chevron to Google — are generating tailwinds for the geothermal industry's expansion in the U.S. Read more: https://lnkd.in/etiHnf_g #Energy #EnergyLaw
