The Pacific Northwest to Alaska Green Corridor project is preparing to study the feasibility of four green methanol-powered cruise ships operating complete Alaskan itineraries by 2032, with at least one ship in service in the market by 2030. This initiative not only aims to reduce air emissions in the region, but also supports the cruise industry's larger sustainability goals, as we continue to pursue zero net emissions by 2050! #WeARECruise

Hey Cruise Industry — Let’s stop with the #greenwashing because large cruise ships will never be sustainable. Never. And the best #sustainability strategy for brands today is being truly transparent on their challenges and struggles in their journey. Less PR. More honesty. Because the truth matters these days. #letsgo 🚢 👊 ~ Rob That said, it’s great to see the progress ships are making when it comes to implementing new environmental and renewable technologies that will allow — “ships to use more renewable energy sources as they become available and making important incremental steps to employ a range of other environmental technologies and practices to advance the industry’s wider sustainability initiatives.” This is all good. But if you REALLY want your industry to have more respect when it comes to sustainability — then you need to talk more openly (and regularly) about about the serious industry problems, challenges and struggles with making sustainability fundamental to the entire large cruise ship industry. Tell your real story. #storytelling Because honest dialogue, discussions and debates is where serious longterm change and transformation is much more possible. And isn’t that what you want? No industry is perfect when it comes to their sustainability journey. So let’s pivot. Thanks for (hopefully) listening. CLIA, the Cruise Lines International Association, has published its annual report, Global Cruise Industry Environmental Technologies and Practices, highlighting the sector’s progress in the ecological transition. The report shows that half of the ships are already electrified, while only 3% of global ports are prepared for this technology. #Cruises #CruisingJournal #CLIA #CruiseIndustry CLIA in Europe

I recently read an article about the draft bill for the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Information Act. This Act, if passed, could be a game-changer for the aviation industry, providing stakeholders with reliable, detailed data on SAF. It has the potential to support sustainable growth and contribute significantly to global environmental goals. Exciting times ahead for the future of sustainable aviation! Check out the post by Rimba to see the draft bill. https://lnkd.in/gnaS2gwY

Supporting ports like the exceptional Orkney Harbours Islands Council Authority on the Journey to Net Zero The Net Zero team at Sealand Projects Ltd have been hard at work partnering with ports to help them better understand and manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One such collaboration is with the Orkney Islands Council Harbour Authority, who are striving to lead the way in sustainable practices within the ports industry. Their ambitious goals align perfectly with our expertise, and we’re delighted to support them on this journey. As part of the process, we hosted an engaging emissions workshop, bringing together team members to explore tactics and solutions for achieving their net zero objectives. With 29 diverse areas under their jurisdiction, accounting for their carbon emissions was no small feat. However, through clear communication, diligent effort from the Harbour Authority, and Sealand’s strategic approach, we ensured the process was as smooth as possible. A notable challenge in ports is understanding emissions from visiting vessels, which typically account for over 97% of total emissions. By leveraging Sealand’s specialist vessel emissions software, we were able to provide accurate calculations of GHG emissions across various vessel types and uses, making this complex task much more manageable. We extend our gratitude to the Orkney Harbours Islands Council Authority for trusting us to deliver their first GHG emissions report. It has been a pleasure collaborating with their dedicated team, and we look forward to future opportunities to support their sustainability journey. #NetZero #Sustainability #GHGEmissions #MaritimeIndustry #Collaboration
