🇳🇱 This week in Rotterdam, attendees of CLIA Cruise Week Europe are immersing themselves in the insightful sessions and panels of the European Summit, networking with key decision makers, innovators, and suppliers from around the world, and discovering new products and technologies across a wide variety of sectors and industries at the Innovation Showcase. 🎙️ Headlining the European Summit were remarks and words of welcome from CLIA President & CEO Bud Darr, CLIA Global Chairman & Royal Caribbean International CEO Jason Liberty, and Port of Rotterdam CEO Boudewijn Siemons. 🍃 The day's summit program focused on the future of cruise and maritime shipping and the work being accomplished to achieve a more collaborative and sustainable future, featuring expert insight from industry and government leaders during keynote addresses from European Commission ommissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, RINA Services CEO Paolo Moretti, and Wärtsilä President, Wärtsilä Marine and Executive Vice President Roger Holm. 💬 Panel discussions offered deep insight to a variety of topics, including a high-level panel on investments for sustainable growth, featuring International Maritime Organization Director, Marine Environment Division Dr. Heike Deggim, European Commission Deputy Director-General DG MOVE Maja Bakran Marcich, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece Christos Stylianides, European Commission Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, CLIA European Chair and MSC Cruises Executive Chair Pierfrancesco Vago, and Carnival Corporation & Plc President & CEO Josh Weinstein. 💼 Across the showcase floor, David Beckett and Belgian Trading & Bunkering (BTB) led an insightful workshop exploring prospective industry needs and potential opportunities for suppliers. 🤝 At CLIA Cruise Week Europe, CLIA President & CEO Bud Darr proudly joined Mercy Ships CEO Gert van de Weerdhof to sign an MOU underwriting our collaboration in charitable work. 🏥 Since its founding in 1978, Mercy Ships has been deploying hospital ships filled with state-of-the-art medical equipment and volunteer medical professionals who selflessly provide life-changing surgeries to children and adults who otherwise would go without. These state-of-the-art floating hospitals enable volunteer surgeons and medical professionals to provide lifesaving surgical procedures in a safe, sterile environment including clean water, reliable electricity, and monitored care center. Today, Mercy Ships has provided over 100,000 free operations worldwide. 🫂 The healing continues long after the ship departs — Mercy Ships seeks to leave the local communities they visit better equipped with the training, tools, and infrastructure to care for their own, offering specialized training to local healthcare professionals in techniques and procedures appropriate for their environments, providing new equipment to healthcare workers, collaborating with healthcare partners to provide construction and renovation services to local healthcare facilities and help families and communities learn practical and natural food-producing skills. 🤝 As CLIA's charity of choice, we are proud to support Mercy Ships in their mission to provide hope and healing worldwide through life-changing operations and community-building medical training, making the world a better, healthier place for all.
