From the fields to the mills, recycled materials industry plays an indispensable role in shaping the world around us. Whether it’s the cars we drive, the hospitals we trust, or the roads we travel, the steel framework holding these structures together often comes from recycled steel. The recycled materials industry transforms recycled iron into vital raw material for steel mills to use to make components like I-beams, rebar, and steel plate. Infrastructure starts with the recycled metals industry.

Fun Fact Friday: Did you know that U.S. Pipe ductile iron pipe is made from over 90% recycled content? Your old cars, washers, and scrap metal all make up the pipe that we melt every day. If a pipe is somehow not up to our quality standards, it goes right back into the mix and is melted again to make a new pipe. Not many products can be recycled over and over again like ductile iron pipe. In fact, some other pipe products are not allowed to be made from recycled content because they won't pass AWWA standards. When you use ductile iron, you not only get the superior strength, but you know you are truly using an environmentally friendly and responsible product. . . . . #ductileiron #uspipe #builttolast #recycled #recycling #environment #sustainability #awwa #water #pipe #plastic #pvc #hdpe

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 by World Steel Association (worldsteel) Steel has been #recycled ever since it was first made. All available #steel scrap is recycled, over and over again to create new steel #products in a closed material loop. Recycled steel maintains the inherent #properties of the original steel. These properties can be modified during the #steelmaking #process or through #mechanicalprocesses to create the many thousands of advanced and commodity steel #grades available. The #quality of the steel product can also be improved on #recycling. The high value of steel scrap ensures the #economic viability of recycling. With its inherent #magnetic #properties, steel is easy and affordable to #recover from almost any #waste stream. This is why steel is the most #recycledmaterial in the world. Around 680 million tonnes (Mt) of steel were recycled in 2021, avoiding over one billion tonnes of #CO2 #emissions that would have been emitted from the #production of #virginsteel. This includes pre-consumer #scrap from #manufacturing and post-#consumer scrap from steel #products at the end of their useful life. Although all available #steelscrap is recycled, there is not enough scrap available to meet #demand for new steel products. While many steel products such as #packaging and #vehicles have a short to medium service life, large-scale products such as #buildings and #bridges are designed to last for decades or centuries. In the future, all of this material will be recycled to meet our ever-growing need for low-carbon steel.

Siniat’s metal framing products are a good example of “#circular products” and the closed loop usage model. End-of-life refers to the end of a product’s life cycle. In the case of building products, this stage is often the #deconstruction of the building it was installed in. According to the 2018 National Waste Report, we know that an average of 90% of the metal products produced in Australia are recycled at end-of-life by factories that produce new steel that then goes back into the loop. Siniat uses BlueScope steel with 25% #recycled content to make our products. We have also made significant progress in the reduction of the scrap we generate on site, with 50% less waste compared to 2016. All on-site waste we generate in the manufacture of our metal products is recycled. #Circularity is one of the pillars of the Etex Road to Sustainability 2030, and an important part of our sustainability strategy. To find out more the life cycle of Sinat products and their environmental impact, download our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for plasterboard and metal framing from our website https://lnkd.in/gTFZYcb9.

A good use of plastic waste materials is by using in building materials!
GREEN CONCRETE with Plastic ( Rock forming process) ------------------------ Plastic fine particulates along with Flyash, Iron and Steel Slags and other industrial wastes, aggregate , mineral admixture and polymer cement has been used to develop concrete for road and other precast building material products like brick, block and pavement tiles etc. ■ This inovation is a Portland cement free process. ■ A specially and innovative Polymer cement has been developed to replace Portland cement in making green construction materials. Shareing below a casting of concrete mix specimen incorporated with Plastic fines which after atmospheric and water curing attains about 20 -40 Mpa crushing strength on 20 days. ■The Plastic particulates are embedded in rock forming silicate matrix. However more experimental work is required to optimize the process for making high strength road application concrete and also to evaluate the effects of plastic particulates in the reaction process and also the product durability.
