As questions around how dupe culture could impact brand loyalty become more commonplace, travel dupes reflect a growing desire for increased authenticity, affordability, and accountability among travellers. According to Booking.com's annual survey, more travellers are looking to step outside of the standard vacation, with 56% preferring to venture off the beaten track. In this age of personalised travel, hyper-local travel platforms like ROADBOOK and Trippin' have gained traction for their original guides and authentic travel documentation. Travelling has evolved over the years! Massively due to the internet, gone are the days of going to your local travel agent office and getting your bookings done via their recommendation. Now, like everything else in life, we want our own customized options. Although the ‘travel agent’ way of booking has not gone extinct, it surely has evolved. I mean ultimately, aren’t all online booking aggregators travel agents at the end of the day? Let’s talk about local experiences. We watch reels, travel vloggers & scroll the internet to shortlist our bucket list which we wish to experience, but where do we really go wrong? 1. Sticking to Major Tourist Attractions Only When we focus solely on well-known tourist spots, we often miss out on the more intimate, less-commercialized aspects of a destination. Visiting only landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Colosseum in Rome strips us off exploring nearby neighborhoods, local cafes, or hidden gems known primarily to locals 2. Relying on Local Agents for the Local Experience Staying in international hotel chains can isolate us from the local culture and community, while also exposing us to ‘local’ guides who have a biased way of functioning. For them, the best local experience for you is the one where they get the most commission. Not fair is it? 3. Using Large Tour Operators Exclusively If it’s not the local guides, it's this - booking tours and activities through large, international operators. Joining a bus tour operated by a global company that rushes through sites without in-depth tours or personal interactions, compared to a local guide who can provide personal stories, insights, and access to less-visited spots.
