How does the World Health Organization shape, support and optimize research and development (R&D) for global health? As World Health Organization, we are not product developers per se, however a) we conduct a huge amount of research to generate evidence to inform policies and guidelines and b) we have a very strong voice to shape and influence research and development 💊 🏥 In the Science team, we support, shape and enable R&D to streamline the overall process with the aim of accelerating access to fit-for-purpose health interventions. ➡ Proactive Scoping: Through country-level consultations and thematic landscape analyses, WHO identifies critical bottlenecks and opportunities along the R&D ecosystem. These insights inform targeted interventions to address local challenges and bolster research capacities in diverse contexts. ➡ Strategic Shaping: By implementing WHO Target Product Profiles (TPPs) and guiding priority research agendas at regional and country levels, WHO ensures that R&D efforts are directed towards addressing the most urgent unmet health needs. Strategic foresight methodologies enable WHO to anticipate future trends and opportunities, guiding the development pathway for maximum impact. ➡ Facilitated Enabling: Through streamlined processes both internally and for external stakeholders, WHO provides accessible guidance and support to researchers, innovators, and developers. ❓ What are the major bottlenecks you encounter in R&D? How can the overall process become more efficient?

🚀 Exciting Update from the Norway Life Science Conference! Last week marked a pivotal moment at the Norway Life Science Conference, where BCG unveiled a report titled “Establishing Norway as a Health Data Leader - What Will It Take?” 🔍 The report delves deep into Norway's current landscape of health data access and utilization, pinpointing the hurdles we face as we strive to broaden and enhance this access. With a keen eye on the future, it outlines five critical initiatives essential for unlocking the value that a strengthened health data ecosystem can offer. 🎯 Key Recommendations: Holistic Mapping: Undertake a comprehensive review of the health data access process to identify and resolve bottlenecks. Regulatory Clarity: Refine and adapt the legal framework to support advancements. Collaboration: Foster international and public-private partnerships to leverage collective strengths. Infrastructure: Enhance and expand upon the existing foundation to support future growth. KPI Development: Formulate actionable Key Performance Indicators for monitoring advancements. A special shoutout to NordicRWE’s Steinar Thoresen and Christian Jonasson, who were among the 35 experts contributing their valuable insights to this report. #rwe #rwd https://lnkd.in/dhQuYC_S
