Very relevant study for climate change communicators! 👇 So on the one hand, communicating scientific consensus changes beliefs and worry about climate change, especially for those on the political right. Great. On the other hand, it doesn't change support for policies. So, the question remains, is this because people have it backwards and belief in climate change when they are in favour of the policy direction in the first place or because the climate change belief itself is pretty irrelevant for which policies we support? Need for further research, but at least this seems to make us believe in the same baseline facts, which is important for public debates! Thanks to colleagues for this research. How to reduce polarized scientific misperceptions? In this new Nature Magazine 27-country test we show that communicating the scientific consensus on important issues, such as climate change, reduces influential misperceptions globally and increases belief in climate change. This is especially true among audiences stuck in their own echo chamber (low familiarity) and for those on the ideological right. Brilliant project led by Sandra Geiger Bojana Većkalov František Bartoš with Kai Ruggeri Bastiaan Rutjens Frenk van Harreveld & many other wonderful colleagues! https://lnkd.in/eUFU3QBU

Open Government policy at OECD | Governance and democracy innovation, communication, media, mis/disinformation
Building a common understanding of the problems - and consensus on the solutions - is one of the thoughest challenges in our polarized information space. We are looking for more evidence like this paper ⬇️ on what communication methods make though policy issues less intractable and create room for constructive dialogue. Any researchers and practitioners interested in sharing/learning get in touch! #comms #policy

Looking forward to attending the #I4C24 today and learning from the experience of urban practitioners and researcher from around the world. The conference is hosted by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) and UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), and is set to shape global discussions on climate progress by leveraging the efforts of subnational governments at a time when 70% of cities are facing major climate impacts, thus demanding immediate action. The aim is to accelerate progress on the Paris Agreement goals, inform the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Seventh Assessment (AR7) Report, and serve as a dynamic forum for bridging data and technology gaps, especially in underserved regions and cities in the Global South. Later today I will be presenting #DK2020 and the collaborate efforts of Realdania, KL, Danske Regioner - Danish Regions, C40 Cities and CONCITO to support climate action among Danish municipalities, discussing the concept, results so far and what we consider to be the key drivers, learnings and insights. Curious? Not a problem - we summarized the main talking points in a brand new white paper - you can find a link in the post from Nicolas Francart below.
Interested in local climate action? My colleague Tue Damsø and I have just published a white paper describing #DK2020, a Danish multi-level governance initiative that successfully supported all Danish municipalities in developing ambitious climate action plans. We hope these learnings can help similar initiatives in other countries! Find the paper here: https://lnkd.in/dVgTpRcX Tue will be presenting the key takeaways at the #Innovate4Cities conference in Montreal, which we’re both attending this week! More on that soon 😊 We’re looking forward to a week packed with inspiring talks and knowledge sharing on local climate action. We’re keen on exchanging with people working in that field, and linking our work in Denmark with initiatives in other countries. So if you’re there and would like to talk to us, please reach out!

Excited to share the latest #JRCRemo paper, written in collaboration with Francesco Cappellano and Nicola Francesco Dotti, on regional readiness to tackle climate change! 🌍✨ This study explores how European regions align their innovation policies with climate action, highlighting the crucial role of Research & Innovation (R&I) ecosystems. Here's a snapshot of the key findings: ➡ High-risk regions: regions most exposed to climate risks (floods, landslides) are also the ones leading innovation efforts to mitigate these risks ➡ Regional disparities: more developed regions tend to be better prepared, while less developed ones face greater challenges and need more support ➡ Strategic importance: tailored, region-specific solutions are vital to ensuring a balanced and effective climate response across Europe.
