Reflecting on a powerful quote from Brené Brown: 'Our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self acceptance.' In an industry that is as evolving and vibrant as ours, embracing this can be a game-changer. Just as we advocate for the green essence of nature, it's crucial to remember that growth starts from within. Cultivating a strong sense of self is the root of all success and belonging. Let's aim to create environments that foster acceptance, both of the self and of the diverse tapestry that makes our community so unique. #SelfAcceptance #CommunityGrowth #cannabisculture #cannabisindustry

A new report from Global Greengrants Fund, Global Alliance For Green And Gender Action (GAGGA), and The SAGE Fund explores how funders can support women environmental defenders. ⬇⬇⬇ Here are the key takeaways ⬇⬇⬇ #Climate #Activism #HumanRights
Women who defend our environment from extractivism often face significant harm rooted in deep-seated structural oppression. Despite the risks to their lives and well-being, women environmental defenders play powerful and diverse roles in uniting communities while resisting exploitation. However, funding focused on addressing gender-based violence against women environmental activists represents only 0.05% of overall foundation funding for the environment. In a collaborative report from GAGGA, Global Greengrants, and SAGE Fund, we share opportunities for funders to better support this work. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eUacMRQh

Folks who know me know my strong belief in the ability of small choices to catalyze big change. For those who need last minute gifts (or treats for yourself), a quick post to commend SERRV International to your attention. They were my entry point into the Fair Trade movement (+ they have really great stuff). Support peace, gender equality, environmental stewardship, and more while helping to change the balance of power. https://lnkd.in/ek6ufe-4

Key highlights from Jazzy Rasolojaona’s presentation at our #SBSTTA side event: Human rights and conservation share a symbiotic relationship, guiding just and effective practices. Yet, too often, conservation actions violate the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. It's crucial to uphold rights while preserving nature. Indigenous- and community-led conservation efforts often need more rights recognition. Strengthening legal empowerment and integrating customary values can foster mutual understanding and effective governance. Agreements between Protected Area managers and local communities must clarify rights, facilitate transparency, and reinforce safeguards. Lessons learned emphasize legal empowerment, inclusive representation, and gender integration for equitable conservation.

~You're reading Part 3 of "Why My Team is Amazing" at the Rights and Resources Initiative, this time about research! 🦋 🌱 🐛 We're #hiring. https://lnkd.in/gHCX-K2s (Salary 55k; DC based; Needs authorization to work in US).~ I came to RRI deeply curious about our focus areas of collective #tenure rights, #environmental #justice, and #Indigenous governance. I knew that I would explore these ideas in our coalition governance spaces, but what I didn't expect was that I'd get to produce collaborative research as a critical part of my coalition building practice. Let me set the scene with a bit of background about my "baseline". In Feb 2020, we began to receive updates about impressive frontline pandemic responses. (Shouting out Konsorsium Pembaruan Agraria and their collaborators sharing food from rural storehouses with urban labor movements!) I produced a brief that helped us communicate with our donors and put Indigenous Peoples' and local communities' collective rights top of mind. In short, I received information, packaged it, and off it went to external audiences. The next year is when things started to change for me. In 2021, a critical theme was #30x30 and bringing human rights into conservation discourse. Thomas Worsdell and I ended up with an ambitious, unwieldy research project. But rather than turning inwards, Anne-Sophie Gindroz coached us to turn outwards and bring on co-authors. We found the best of the best. Gam Shimray from Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact and Pasang Dolma Sherpa from CIPRED shepherded us. And over time, our flock grew. We ultimately had ❗ TWENTY ❗ co-author organizations join the project. During this time, Gam shared something that I've never forgotten: "To build relationships between organizations you can't just talk and talk. You have to DO SOMETHING, co-produce something, together!" 🛠 And co-produce something we did, bringing stories and feedback from across the coalition together! https://lnkd.in/gfFPbxUp We launched the report (and accompanying music video!) with the ICCA Consortium, gaining traction rivaling RRI's global reports 📈 While I will never co-author a report without an outline again 😅 ... this process forged my commitment to shared ownership of research products. ...and of course, this commitment was immediately tested! I had been sitting with a youth mapping report in my hard drive for a long time and wanted to get it out, ASAP. But the team reminded me of our 30x30 report and the effectiveness of our co-authorship model. I slowed down. We invited youth "contributors" to be co-authors. Together, we reviewed drafts, dreamed up illustrations, and word-smithed key findings. We became friends, sharing stories that found their way into our text. This took 2 years, and was so worth it. https://lnkd.in/gnTBc7w3 The FOURTH launch is in two weeks, in Nepal! 🌄 Gratitude to those who taught me the power of integrating coalition building into our work at every step! 👣
