This week, we’ll continue highlighting projects that have been selected to receive funding to improve state and regional engagement in wholesale electricity markets through the Wholesale Electricity Market Studies and Engagement Program. Today, we’re diving into Cornell University’s plans for the funding: 💵 Amount: $2 million ✅ Goal: Analyze price formation and resource procurement policies in wholesale electricity markets that could accommodate an evolving resource mix of higher levels of wind, solar, and storage in future electricity systems in support of efficiency and reliability in both the short and long term. Interest in EV charging is surging, and local governments around the country are planning for and installing chargers to meet this demand! Kat Carroll, Joseph Womble, Katrina McLaughlin and I recently led a cohort of local governments around this topic as part of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Clean Energy to Communities program in partnership with National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
