🌅On my sunrise walk I stood in awe of this view. Nestled on the sun-kissed shores of California, the San Diego Naval Base stands as a formidable pillar of American strength and resilience. This iconic military installation is not just a testament to the unwavering spirit of the US Navy it is a cornerstone of our nation's defense strategy, safeguarding the freedoms and safety of Americans across the land and beyond. The San Diego Naval Base plays a pivotal role in ensuring the readiness of our naval forces, serving as a premier Pacific Fleet headquarters. It's here that sailors and Marines rigorously prepare for global missions, embodying the valor and dedication that define American patriotism. The base is a hub of technological innovation and strategic military planning, directly contributing to the peace and security we cherish. This bastion of democracy is more than a military facility; it is a symbol of American perseverance, a guardian of the Pacific, and an advocate for peace in tumultuous times. It represents the best of American values: courage, commitment, and camaraderie. As we reflect on the importance of the San Diego Naval Base, let us renew our commitment to supporting our armed forces and remembering the sacrifices made for our freedom. UPDATE 2/20/24 2/19/24 - Consider this .... 1364 DAYS (3y 8m) = # days from Attack on Pearl Harbor and Surrender on USS Missouri "The war in the Pacific raised to glory some of history's finest naval commanders, legendary names including Nimitz, Halsey and Spruance. Likewise, America's most decisive blows toward total victory in World War II were struck here, from the early triumphs at Midway and the Solomon Islands to the climactic clashes of the Philippine Sea and Okinawa. This turbulent chapter in world history finally ended with the formal surrender of the Japanese aboard USS Missouri (BB 63) on Sept. 2, 1945. At the time, the U.S. Navy had 6,768 ships in service, most of them in the Pacific." How many days has it been since the Biden-Harris administration was sworn in? What has been accomplished during that time period?? We need a common & unifying focus - Like, Victory in WWII or JFK's vision of American pioneers on the moon by the end of the decade. We can accomplish Extraordinary things with the appropriate leadership - vision - passion!!! Elections have consequences. Vrckn https://lnkd.in/gZYUqC36

On this day in history, 6 October 1943, the Battle of Vella Lavella begins. This was the last major battle of the Central Solomons campaign, ending three long months of fighting for the area. American intelligence learned of the Japanese intent to send ships to withdraw their troops from Vella Lavella, and sent a group of their own to intercept them. The force was intended to contain nine destroyers, but there were not enough ships on patrol, and ultimately the destroyers ships in the area, known as “The Slot,” were to receive three more destroyers as reinforcements for the mission. The Japanese, however, arrived before the reinforcements. The Americans engaged the six Japanese destroyers, and although all three U.S. ships were heavily damaged, they managed to sink at least one of the Japanese vessels. This was the last significant Japanese victory of the Pacific War and enabled the Americans to gain a foothold that would be vital in taking Rabaul, a crucial base for American victory in the Pacific War. During World War II, the U.S. Navy faced substantial losses in its submarine fleet, with 52 submarines and over 3,500 submariners lost in the line of duty. These submarines, now on eternal patrol, carried out daring missions that were critical to the Allied war effort, disrupting enemy supply lines, gathering intelligence, and sinking significant tonnage of enemy shipping. Each loss represented a profound sacrifice and demonstrated the bravery and resilience of the submariners who operated in perilous conditions beneath the sea. The legacy of these submarines and their crews serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of war and the heroism displayed by those who served. Their contributions significantly impacted the course of the war, despite the high risks and ultimate sacrifices they faced. T oday, we honor their memory and valor, recognizing the silent service's vital role in achieving victory during World War II. As we reflect on their service, we commit to preserving their stories and ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
